slicker brush
 
I'm looking for a good slicker brush.What does everyone use? Is there a specific one?

I don't use a slicker brush, I only use a comb. I started to buy a slicker brush a while back and I was going to get a CC systems brush.

I don't use them either they hurt my babies. I use a comb as well. I am looking into getting a nice brush though

The slicker is used only to get those matts out, and they do an excellent job without damaging the hair. Get one that say's it's a soft slicker.

There is an art to using a slicker on a yorkie. You don't brush head on, but use the side to work out mats.

Ditto. A regular human hairbrush with the little balls on the tips.

As a show groomer, ball on the tips is the worse thing for a show coat.

Iwas watching a yorkie grooming video and a slicker brush is what they said to use to get the tangles and matts out. She demostrated the correct way to use one and it looked like it was alot easier on the dog and groomer.

A slicker brush will just break the hair. I use a steele comb and a pin brush with the blunted pins. They work very well and no breakage. Lynn

I do not use a Slicker Brush anymore either. It does break the hairs very badly. I never knew why the ends of Stedman's hair always looked like they had "fly aways" - then I groomed him and got all the dead ends off - and changed brushes (I now use a regular brush, and a metal comb) and his hair looks wonderful, as does Tatum's. No more broken, damaged ends. I would personally only recommend a Slicker Brush for getting matts out - however, with my babies, spraying them with Buddy Splash before brushing (I NEVER brush a dry coat) takes any tangles out within seconds, although they honestly don't get that many to begin with which I guess I should be thankful for.

Of course, everyone has different opinions as to what they like to use on their babies, so to each their own ;)

The slicker brush would be used to get mats and tangles out,not regular brushing. You use it on a spritz coat. hold a portion of the hair up and start brushing the hair down a little at a time.Atleast that is what the grooming video shows.
