Which Product is Best for Matts, Knotts I have a 7 1/2 month baby (see photo) that is always full of matts next to is skin, What is the best product for that. And worst he doesnt like brushing, always bites me. Can anyone help me with these two problems please. Forever grateful. He owns the house I only pay the mortgage. |
Give baby a bath. After you rinse out the conditioner, rub it a "dab" of cowboy magic detangler. Comb/pin brush that through, then towel dry and dry as usual. The cowboy magic will keep the mats at bay. For in-between baths, mix one part of CM detangler with 8 parts water and put in a spray/mist bottle. Shake very well then use as a grooming spray. Baby won't mind brushing so much after a few painless sessions. |
I use cowboy magic inbetween baths. This way if I put to much on (it will make them look like a little grease ball!!) It will come out with the bath. I have a soft coated long hair little girl that matts too and, she doesn't like to get brushed either...she's better with it now because I don't give in to her... This is what I do...I put the CM in my hand and rub it into her hair concentrating on her matted areas...if I find a big matt I will apply a small amount of CM right onto the matt and rub it in with my finger tips. I have tried using a comb (which I fell pulls to much on their skin) and the pin brush (which doesnt really get into the matt) I use the slicker brush. The pins (bristels) are a little finer than the pin brush so it really gets into the matt. I take small sections of hair and start brushing from the botton up..This is going to take a while...you aren't going to be able to just brush through his hair...I usually wait until Lillie is settleing down for the night, lay her on my lap and just start brushing. She is pretty good about it. I don't know how old your little guy is but, if you brush him everyday (even if your not getting matts out) it will get him used to the brush and brushing will get easier...I promise you that! As for adding CM with water and using inbetween.....although I was told to do this also it didn't work for me..the CM is very oily and doesn't stay mixed well with the water...I found using it straight from the tube worked best. Lillie is 1 yr old now and her puppy coat is almost all grown out so she doesn't matt as badly as she used to...for a while I though I was going to have to puppy cut her....THANK GOD! I didn't Good Luck! |
Cowboy Magic is the greatest. |
thanks for the tips thanks for the tip. Im gonna try to find the CM on the weekend and hope he like the brushing after that.  |

You can generally buy Cowboy Magic at any farm supply store in the horse grooming section -- Tractor Supply Company is a GREAT place to try. |
I got my CM from Amazon.com. They have tons of stuff on there. But I use it only occasionally because I also found that it makes Britain look a bit oily. But it does get out the tangles so I would rather her look a bit shiny than matted up. |
I used CM on my babies but recently switched to Paul Mitchell Pet leave in conditioner and detangler. I love it and it also smells great! |
I found cowboy magc to be too oily. I shampoo with Mnksheen and condition with Pantene and that takes care of the matts for me |
Just out of curiosity, how often are you brushing him? If it is a long time between brushing try doing it more often. |
Soft coated Baby..with mats... Is cowboy magic a conditioner for after shampoo? or is it to use when grooming? Where do you get it? i live in a small town soo may have to wait to receive inthe mail or till I go to a bigger town like Green Bay. WI...will detangler for children work on a soft coated dog with mats? The type of brush I've been using is with the fine wires...and the wires have a bend in them . Is this type ok? Benteley insists on chewing in the brush or mouthing my hans when I brush him...it's really frustrating. Thanks |
My baby gets matted sometimes but I have found that brushing him twice a day and when I give him a bath let the conditioner set for 4-5 minutes and then combing him out VERY good as I blowdry him works great. The best thing is mainly just using a conditioner and letting it set 4-5 min and then try to comb your baby out as you blowdry his/her hair. I believe that the conditioner sitting that long will help make it not get matts as bad. :twocents: |
