Warning on toys!
 
Maybe most of you knew this, but it was news to us!
We had to take Wrigley to the vet today because she has been vomiting and our vet warned us about the knot rope toys or any toys that have threads and strings on them can be dangerous to dogs her size. She said if they swallow the threads and strings they can easily lodge or even wrap around their intestines.
Fortunately that wasn't the problem with her, she has a bug, but I thought I would pass it along!

Rocky loves his ropes! Are there anything that's a rope but safe for them? I'd hate to have to take them away from him :(

I agree with your vet. I also bought Buddy one when he was
a pup. MY daughter babysat for him one day and told me
when I came home he had something hanging out of his butt
when he went to the bathroom and it was red. She thought
it was a sting of blood and took a napkin to pull it out and out
came a glob of red string from his rope toy. Lucky he passed
it but the toy went into the garbage.

Of dear, that's scarey!:eek: Tink also has several of those. And just this morning, she vomited up a long string of felt bits that she has chewed off of her "sun" toy. Maybe I should go back to socks knotted up.

lexi has a few of those stringy toys, she is not aloud to play with them
unless im around... the ones i have , she could be strangled by... cause the
strings are so long... please be careful.

Thanks for sharing this info. It was news to me when I found out. I had just brought my puppy home to a box full of toys, of course, and happened to mention to his breeder that I had bought him this "floss" rope toy. She told me to throw it away immediately as she had heard of a dog that had become ill after playing with one, and unfotunately died. When they looked inside to poor pup, his intestines were wound up with the the floss threads. Scary and sad.

Its always good to supervise dogs with any toys. I generally dont have many rope toys, actually I only think we have one and I only bring it out if Im watching the girls.

Well I'm happy to share! I thought maybe we were the only ones who didn't know this! Thank goodness we had her fleece toy and rope toy in the crate when we took her to the vet and the vet saw them!
It makes sense they could be dangerous, I guess I just hadn't really thought about them before!
We need to do everything we can to protect our babies!
I'm so sorry to hear about the dogs became sick and passed away from this!:(

We do the socks knotted up as well. The vet said just make sure to throw them away when they start getting the elastic out of the sock!

I'm not sure if they have the ropes without the string on the ends. Our vet said stick to bones. We do give them knotted socks, but as soon as the elastic starts coming out, they go in the trash!
