I need help with finding the right grooming brushes!!! Hello, I am a newbie to Yorkietalk.com I have a male yorkie named Harley who is 16 weeks tomorrow. He hates for me to groom him!!!! I ordered the Chris Christensen shampoo/conditioner kit and a 20mm brush. I had read the forums and everyone really seemed to recommend him. What can you use on their legs.... The brushes seem so big... I am also going to order the cowboy magic if the ice on ice does not help with the tangles. Thanks for anyones advice in advance......... Sonya:) |
I use the Chris Christensen Buttercombs on all of my furkids' legs and faces - and bodies too - and use the brush for the final fluff. The Buttercombs are wonderful. They have a face and feet comb that's perfect! I think I have every single one of the different sizes of Buttercombs they make. I find that each one of them is convenient for different situations, but the one I use the most is the face and feet comb. |

I second, third, fourth, and fifth! the butter combs! I have 6 of them!!!! The rat tail is Awesome for doing topknots and the face and feet is the best allaround comb!! Its wonderful for the feet and legs and SUPER for combing out the tear paths... |
Thank you so much! I will have to order the combs. We had a rough night last night, Harley had his third set of shots, along with his rabies and worming- he was throwing up all night but thank God he is fine today. He got sick on his first set of shots with worming and was fine on his second so I do not know if is the worming or the rabies shot this time, but he is fine today!!!! Thanks for the advice:):) :) |
I've heard most of professional groomers rave about Original Belgian Greyhound Combs made in Belgium. CC's as well as many other manufacturers make combs that are "Greyhound style." I have not compared CCs combs to that of the "Original Belgian Greyhound" so I can't say if one is better than the other but I bought and tried the Original Belgian Greyhound ones and they are incredible. Price wise, they are in the same ballpark, approximately 23.50 each. |
I looked at the buttercombs -need more help please! I looked at the combs there were so many how do you know how to choose the right one?????? |
brush I use the pin head...and as to the Belgium combs..well, 20 years ago I bought a small 4 1/2 inch metal one...used it until it was curved in the spine..so I go to get a new one and they do NOT make the size any longer...I contacted the maker and he said he retired..how dare him!!!! Some are similar, but this one has a rounded spine and is more light weight...I was visiting a friend and she had a brand new one..still in the plastic case...I paid $25 for this $5 comb, but it is treated like gold...infact I use the bent one most of the time and keep this one in a box... Seriously, there was a time I could not get my grooming work day started if the comb was misplaced... |
speaking of combs, i was thinking of getting a CC too, but morgan has a cotton coat. do you think they are still just as good? or do you recommend something else? |
how do you know it is cotton or the difference?? I am not trying to sound difficult but Harley is my first yorkie- have a lab-totally different ballpark..... How can you tell which coat your dog has??? When you saw cotton - more like soft or poodleish-- or the way it looks???? I told you I was a newbie.... |
Morgan is adorable in the pictures-- Harley hates to have clothes on-- and of course to be brushed.... |
