Ex-Pen Question I got a Petco gift card for Christmas and was thinking of buying an Ex-Pen. Has anyone purchased this one at Petco: http://www.petco.com/Shop/petco_Prod...lyID_5874.aspx. It looks kind of small to me. I would like one that is pretty big so my 8 pound furbaby can have plenty of room to run around in it outside. Also, he is 1 year old and I am sure once I put him in he will bark like crazy. Is it hard to train them to stay in it? |
Xpen I used one for Lex when he was being housebroken...he got used to it and didn't mind it so much. But he loves his freedom and as he got older he was able to do his damndest to knock it over. Maybe you might want to get a tie out post when you take him out to the yard. It's a stake that goes in the ground and you can get line as long as you want it so your baby can roam. I use that for Lex in the yard. He loves it because he can go far and see things and I know he can't get loose. Our yard is opened and shared with the yards for thee other houses so he can go wild all over so the staek and tie out works for us. |
That is about the standard size expens come in, eight panels. The height is up to you. I have two ex pens and love having them both. I have the pens inside and up against a wall so they have even more space. You can get add on panels to add on to the pen, not all ex pens have this option so you might want make sure it can have panels added on to it. Mine got used to it right away, but then again they were never in the pen alone, they always had someone to play with. |
I have this one and love the door option that way I do trip over it when I need to get something in there. I have three x-pens and use them all the time. I put my furbabies in it as puppies so they are already use to it. I found so many uses for them. I put all three x-pens together and use it outside, open them up if I need to section off an area such as around the fireplace. I was also thinking that my Yorkie Meetup Group could bring them and we could make a hugh dog pen at the park. You should get one tall enough so he can not jump over it. He is probably not going to like it at first, but I would go slow and start with a few minutes with treats and maybe a Kong and build from there. Make it super comfy for him. I do not worry that they are "getting in touble" when I am gone. |
I have a precision xpen, actually i have two and love them |
