Suggestions for Good Coat oil?
 

Hi, Can you who show suggest a good oil to put my long coated Yorkie in? She is almost to the ground but not quite. She is eleven months old. If we can keep it up, Im planning to show her in a month. Its been awhile, and I know there are good new products since I last grew a show coat. Thanks.

PURE EMU OIL! :) You will love it.. a little goes a very long way, and what is left over on your hands will make them feel like satin. I only do the last 4 inches or so of the coat, then work it through with a greyhound comb, and you can probably go 2 days before re-applying. Are you wrapping?

I have been told by a very reliable show breeder that emu oil works great. You can get it at some health food stores or order it from almost any pet supply online. I don't actually remember which one I ordered from, but I'm sure someone will give you a good site. I just got it a couple weeks ago, but I think it's going to work great! Would love to see and know more about your baby.

Thanks. I am not wrapping but she lives on a tile floor so it lets her coat grow. Then she plays outside, but we are being careful where she goes, now that her coat is near the ground. We have a farm and I really dont have time during hay season to wrap so the oil etc will have to do. We do have some cute pictures on our site, www.carteryorkies.com. :aimeeyork

I went to your site, I am envious of your big beautiful farm! Which girl was she? I wasn't sure. max is a cutie! Seriously, try the emu oil...if you can find some locally from another famer, even better..white is fresh, yellow is old.. you will love it..and it will do exactly what you need it to do.

I got emu oil, I just got it in the mail so I havent gotten to try it yet, but villette told me about and I just know its going to be great :thumbup:

i never tried the Emu oil, I heard great things about it but I use plush puppy seabreeze oil and am pleased with it.

Ive got Plush Puppy seabreeze oil and it works okay but i want to try the emu oil. Ive got some i just need to try it

Thank you! Her color change is taking longer than others I've seen, but I've been told that was a good thing as she would hold her color better. Today was bath and groom day and I had planned to take new pictures of Fancy, but... my son didn't bring the camera back like he was supposed to. I will get and post new pictures tomorrow. I tried to add a picture from a few weeks ago, but it wouldn't work for some reason.. Will try again but if it doesn't work, check back tomorrow evening when I have the camera and my computer wizards here or I can pm them.

Oh my Goodness, She is such a cutie pie! What does it take to start showing your Yorkie... What kind of classes.. how would you know if your Yorkie is show quality? Can you tell by sending pictures?

First, thank you! Fancy is such a delightful little "toot". As for showing, I've been out of the ring for YEARS. Now that my children are basically grown, I've definitely wanted to get back into it. She is my first Yorkie (although I have wanted one for years). My family laughed at me for wanting a "fru fru" lap dog! Boy, are they singing a different tune!! Last night, my husband smiled and asked "why it took me so long to get one?" You might check with the local kennel club and see if there may be others that have Yorkies that would be willing to help. Also, the clubs sometimes have matches or training classes. Unfortunately the club here doesn't do the matches anymore, and I've been told no one goes to the handling classes. If there are shows in your area, go and watch and after everyone has finished showing their dogs, talk to a breeder or exhibitor, or even a professional handler,(if they have time) or ask when they could talk to you. You can't really tell much from pictures as you can't see what is under all that hair, or see the movement. There are people that will help, but remember there are people out there that are just plain mean and rude,so don't get discouraged.
