Nylabone Corn Cobs Well, tonight we went to PetSmart and while we were there bought a nylabone corncob-shaped bone for Ginger (she actually loves the non edible bones). Anyway, this was a new kind, and when I gave it to her she was sooooo excited and took off with it to chew, chew, chew. Well, with ANY new toy I keep an eye on her, within minutes she had chewed off a big chunk. (this is NOT one of their edible bones). So, I had to take away her new toy... Why do they make pet toys that can't even stand up to a Yorkie????? It's annoying to waste your money and disappoint your dog (who's still looking at me and fussing for her new bone)... Anyway, stay away from these, they don't hold up |
I completely agree.....please stay away from these and also the ones that looks like ribs. We purchased both and it was a very short time before our girls got pieces off of these.....and later that night our Magic developed stomach problems that were most likely due to her swallowing part of these items. (Magic has a very sensitive stomach - and that was the only thing that had changed that day.) These are marked for mild chewers.....but the pieces break off so easily that the pups hardly have to work at it. I think the company should change the formula of these and make the edible unless they can make them stronger and not so easily destroyed. |
i am also looking for a product that will hold up to the heavy chewers. i got the kong things but ahia is not interested in those at all. |
I too have a heavy chewer, who I have to watch very closely. The only thing I've found that works are those bully sticks. They last forever and I don't have to worry about him getting a large chunk of it off. |

I would look on the package for a phone # or there website and call or write them and tell them exactly what you just told us. Cause your right, it's not right that they can sell something that could hurt are babies. |

I have posted, several months ago, this very thing. Manufacturers do not care about the safety of the animals that chew this crap! Buddy is a very aggressive chewer. He is now 2 1/2 and has slowed down some but still loves to chew. Bully sticks last about 1/2 hr. I do not buy these anymore. Nylabone I believe, made him very sick last year. He was hospitalized for four days. I have searched forever to find a safe chew toy. I found rolled rawhide, they are shaped like a manoccotti. They are rolled very tight and he can not get off a chuck. I replace it every other day when I see it start to wear around the edges. They are $3.39 for 4. I found them in ShopRite. Believe me I have purchased just about every chew toy out there and this is the best one for Buddy. Hope it works for you as well. Good luck.:aimeeyork P.S. I have had good luck with the Nylabone Durables. They are the white ones. Gracie is one of the most destructive chewer I have ever seen and even she has never gotten a piece off and all three of mine really like them. We have been using them for over 2 years with no problems. Mine also really like bully sticks but they stink so bad that I reserve them for special treats. |
I give Louie Merrick's Flossies. I believe these are beef tendons. They last a long time, and he has never gotten a chunk off of one. They also don't smell as bad as bully sticks. (to me anyway) He really loves them and I am all for anything that keeps him occupied. |
I wont buy Nylabone anything. My dogs have eaten large pieces of it before |
The cow hooves are great. Cali has had one for a couple of weeks and has just chewed off a very tiny area. She keeps going back to it a few times a day and they are 99 cents. |

I bought both the corn cob and the rib and also they have a fish now. Yes they all have had broken chunks out of them and they are all in the trash. Starsky has always been a chewer and loves the bully sticks and compressed rawhide. Shylah on the other hand gets tummy aches from the bully sticks. So the thing they both like to chew is the blue bumpy bone. They will chew that for hours. They do wear down the little nubs but at least that is really small. I hope one of these days Shylah gets over her tummy aches from the flossy's and bully sticks. They are just to rich for her. |
Be careful some stores that carry bully sticks are bad. i bought some at this pets store and took it home, they were not individually wrapped...it had a really bad smell. anything that it touches it smelled so bad. i tossed it out the next day. i bought one at petsmart and it was all wrapped up and was great. i think just make sure you smell it first before you buy it. some can stink up your furniture really bad. i always buy it at petsmart now. also someone mentioned the corn-on-the cob chew toy from petsmart. i bought it and poopy loved it. but be careful cuz after a few days, poopy threw up something yellow, and i'm almost positive it was the corn chew thing because he was playing with it right before. he's doing good now, but i just watch him more closely now just to make sure there are no small pieces coming off. i didn't think it would break so fast. our lil babies sure do have sharp teeth. |
