Avoid shopping at Hands N Paws!! I was looking for a harness vest and went to their site. They had an easy go step in harness listed under harness vests. It is nothing like a harness vest and very complicated to put on (which I wanted something easy). It also has a long long part that will hang down if not attached to the leash (so the dog will trip) When I asked them for a return, they were very rude saying "that is your opinion" (when I told them how I felt about it). Terrible customer service. I paid $19.00 plus $6.50 shipping and tax. I will only get about $6 back (can't remember how much the tax was) if I return this UN-USED with tags on it, item. I will avoid shopping htere in the future! suzie |
Just curious, why will they only return $6? |
A lot of places charge a restocking fee (sometimes 10.00 or more) which makes it sooo not worth the time, money, or effort to return something - I guess they do that on purpose. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with them - there's nothing worse than ordering something online, getting excited about your purchase, only to find that it's not exactly what you were looking for - and to top it off with bad customer service... :thumbdown Is it too late to keep it and make your own adjustments to it? |
They charge a 15% or $5 restocking fee plus I am out the shipping costs. In one respect I can see why some places do, but they should understand that we can't see these products in person (size and such) and go by what they tell us. I feel that the description did not fit what it really is and had I known this big long thing sticks out...my god...there is no way i would have purchased it. I probably will keep it. it can't be re-adjusted or anything so I doubt I'll every use it. I'm out about $25-$30 and it makes me mad because I'm pinching pennie4s here and needed something easy...could not find it in a store and have been searching online forever. suzie |
What about trying to resell it on Ebay? |
I have heard bad stories about them on other forums too. |
Geez! What a bummer! Thank you for the head's up. I am so very sorry that you have had this horrid experience. I don't know about you guys, but my hard earned $$ is too hard to come by to have unused "stuff" just sitting around. Customers should always be treated with honesty and respect in my book. |

Yep, if you read the 'fine print' on a lot of websites, they'll list a restocking fee (regardless of the item) - some won't take things back at all. I think it's ridiculous. |
wow Thanks for the tip! How hard is it to restock a small item like a harness. |
I have to hand it to Rae Rae ....charging a re-stocking fee for a harness is silly !! It's just another way to make money. Many online stores are just a one person op. Don't know about Hands N Paws ....but they sure could have treated you better. |
Glad you posted this, I'm browsing online at all these dog boutiques...I'm looking at carriers, harnesses, coats, and shoes. I definitly won't check out this site now. |
I had a problem with them a few years ago on a new carrier/tote that when it arrived I could see would not work for the dog or me. They refused to give me back my money or issue a store credit without a big fight with American Express. Even though the bag was in their unopened packaging, it was a hassle. |
barking clothes offered to fix I just talked to the barking clothes store and she said she may be able to fix the harness so that it will work for me. She is awesome. Just received her products. Will type more on another post. I dont know if she can fix it, but if she can...great. It's not worth returning and getting $6 back. suz |

You could also probably put it on Ebay |
Personally, it wouldn't be worth the bad reputation. I would have let her keep and refunded her money. Its called customer service. |
bad customer service: handsnpaws I also had a terrible customer service problem with them as well...poor attitude all in all....first of all, you wait so long for the product...then, UPS calls you to say you must be home between 8am and 7pm for signing on delivery...all this for a $50 item. Have they heard of insurance? I would never do business with them again.....:aimeeyork |
UPS has automatic insurance for up to $100!!! |
Those restocking fees have detoured me on several occasions. :thumbdown |
I had gone on this site several months back and tries to warn our members about Handsnpaws extremely rude customer service. Not to mention, lack of professionalism! I am sorry that you also had to deal with them. Hopefully, with time and enough dissatisfied customers, sales will drop, and well you know the rest!!!! Jody and Rupert;) |
I know what you mean. I was looking at something on a web site to buy and when I read the return part, I refused to buy it. I know if I order on line somethings I do have to pay the return shipping, but a restocking fee is ridiculous. JMO |
Thanks for the heads up on handsnpaws. If you want something easy to put on your yorkie try the harness below http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID50999...H-Harness.aspx I bought this harness for Logan in the fishie pattern & it is great. Very easy to put on & adorable & the little fishy are reflective for night-time. Lupine has a lifetime guarantee on all that products that if it breaks for any reason (even if your dog chewed it up) you can return for a new one. |
Hand N Paws is listed on the Rip Off.com website. I went to their website and it's a shame. They have beautiful stuff, although they're a litle pricey. For example, the Lookout Console is about $48.00, which is a lot for that item. Maybe we should send them a copy of this whole thread. Judy |
Thanks for posting! I am always browsing websites and I just never know which ones are good or not! Sorry for your problems.....definitely list your item on eBay to try to get your money back! |
I wish I would've read this here first!!! I ordered 5 squeak pigs that Jaxon will play with from here because it was the only place that I found them. I ordered them on 12/13-no word on them & it has been 7 weeks tomorrow. I have emailed them & no answer. They are in NY and don't have a toll free #-only have cust svc hours that are limited for phone calls-HELP |

Thanks for warning us about the other site. You know she would have expected better service if she was spending money -- the Golden Rule should be followed in business too! |
G.W. Little is a great vendor If you want a terrific vendor of little dog goods, I have used G.W. Little! Their bows are terrific and everything is great! Just make sure you order a size up on the Lanci harness clothes! Enjoy!:aimeeyork |
This is such a pity about the rude customer service. I don't understand it...the rudness will not get your repeat . I am HUGE on prompt courteous customer service and making sure the customers are happy so they return and recommend me. I am also huge on exchanges if a customer is not satisfied as long as a product is brand new and resellable. Although I do somewhat understand the restocking fee IF the customer has a history of this. Once in awhile, no problem....we all change our minds and perhaps wasn't what we thought it was. But also keep in mind that some people purposely do this (repeatedly return) knowing that they can try first, some business become strict due to the loss of time and money. I am not at all defending Hands N Paw though. Sorry for your bad experience. |
