not happy with petzforlife toothpaste I have been using the petzforlife teeth cleaning on Sparks. I brush almost everyday or use the spray. He has very white teeth (he is only a puppy) but I do notice some specks of plaque which he shouldn't have if I'm brushing everyday and using this product. also, I've tried it on my teeth (since it is safe for humans). I have one tooth that I notice some plaque build-up. It's been a while, but no change. I'm thinking of looking for a new tooth paste...maybe one that is enzymatic? I remember that my previous dog got some bad plaque build up and after a week of using an enzymatic toothpaste, the plaque flaked off. Problem is...I don't know if there are any safe natural enzymatic toothpastes. suzie |
I feel the same way! I bought the spray and the gel since Simba has a little build up on his back teeth. Mainly though he got some bad breath and I heard the products really work. So far, nothing so...I am disappointed because there was so much rave about those products...bummer.. |
When I did a search on dog toothpaste on YT, I read that a lot of people seem to use Petrodex. It's an enzymatic toothpaste. I bought it but haven't used it on Angel yet. http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...t=Petrodex&N=2 |
I also bought that toothpaste from Petsmart and I am going to try it tonight so I will let you know how it works :) |
but is it natural A long time ago, on my other dog I used petrodex. All I did was put a little on his back teeth before bed. In about a week or two, the enzymes ate through the plaque and it flaked off. My only concern...is it natural? What are the hidden ingredients?? Products are only required to list 1%. suzie |
I used the Petrodex on Diamond last night, the poultry flavored one, and she loved the toothpaste. I put some on my finger first to see if she would like it and she did and then I brushed her teeth but only for about 3 minutes since her mouth is TINY. I was wondering though if I should buy doggy mints since the toothpaste isn't a mint flavor? |
I hope someone can answer your question about whether Petrodex is natural or not suzie. I'm taking Angel to the vet's tomorrow so I'll ask her. I'm glad Diamond liked the toothpaste Laur. I wish I knew of a mint toothpaste that was good because it would be really nice to have their breath smell fresh. I don't know if Angel would like it as much as the poultry flavour though. The breeders know someone that uses mint toothpaste on one of the dogs they sold, but they haven't gotten back to me about it. I saw the dog's teeth as they were dog-sitting for the buyer and they were really white! I asked the breeders a few times about the toothpaste, but they hadn't found out what it is. I'm going to see if my vet knows of one. |

I brush Pixie's teeth twice a week (or so, sometimes I slack a bit) with Denta Clean Tarter Control Toothpaste using a baby toothbrush (the finger brushes didn't work well enough for me). It's mint so it leaves her with nice fresh breath... And then every night before bed I rub a little bit of the Life for Teeth gel on her gums. Her teeth are gleaming white and there isn't a hint of tarter that I can see. I haven't been able to brush Fudgie's teeth yet.. He still has stitches in there from his dental work so they don't want me to mess with it too much. But once I get the okay he'll be on the same routine Pixie is. The vet gave us some Poultry flavored tooth paste to try. Can remember who made it (C.E.T. maybe), but Pixie didn't like it at all and I didn't either, it was too thick and didn't give her minty fresh breath... She actually seems to like (rather, tolerates) the mint flavor better. |
I Wish Gizmo Would Let Me Get Near His Mouth. His Breath Is So Baddd!!!! And Ive Tried Brushing His Teeth But He Gets Stiff And Refuses To Open His Mouth And I Try To Force Myself In There And It Just Doesnt Happen. I Dont Know What To Do. I Even Tried Mints For Dogs And Vanilla And Meaty Flavored Treats That Are Supposed To Help His Bad Breath And He Will Not Eat Them. I Give Up! |
Well, my vet said that any toothpaste is fine. She said it's the act of brushing that's important and to focus on the upper back molars on the top because that's where there's the most plaque buildup. The toothpastes that her hospital sells in mint are CET and something that I think sounds like "Encodent"? My breeder finally told me the name of the mint toothpaste and it's Denta Clean mint gel. I've seen it at PetSmart: http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...enta+Clean&N=2. I hope that helps. |
