is there any way to keep him off the rug? Simba is pretty much completely potty trained, he uses the pee pad occasionally but pretty much does all his "business" outside. We have hard wood floors throughout the house but have an alpeca fur rug (an no, no poor alpeca lamb had to die for this- they shave them, I checked :D ) in the living room. Strangely enough, he does have accidents on the rug, someone told me that he may confuse the rug with a large pee pad. Since the rug can't be washed, and I'd like for them to have the whole house to run through while we are gone, I was wondering if there was some kind of vibration device I could place on the rug that would keep Simba away or maybe anyone else has any suggestions....? If you can clean the rug spots with an odor remover like Simple Solution, that may help. Also, your baby should have a belly band on him at all times in the house until he learns that peeing outside is the only place for him. GOOD LUCK!!:thumbup: |
rug I had a grooming client once who told me she bought electried mats to keep her Yorkies out of her living room/dining room..she put them in the doorway...but one of her Yorks would still run across the mat..she yelped as she went, but the pain was worth getting into the room she wanted...gates are about the only thing I have found that works.. |
I always suggest to people training with pads to place the pad in a underbed storage box with an entrance cut out on one end (large doggy litter box) so the pee pad looks different than a rug. I would also suggest you clean the rug in an enzyme cleaner and maybe put it up until the dog is completely trained. |
Thanks for all the advice. Simba is completely trained and has had no accidents in any other parts of the house except on the carpet which was a couple of month ago (I realized that I didn't write that clearly enough in my first post..:p ). He isn't marking and I therefore don't want to use any belly bands since I don't mind if he goes on the pee pad if needed. Unfortunately, since it's fur, I can't use any of the simple solution nor other cleaner as it will ruin the rug. Hmmm...maybe using a gate to section off the living room is the only way. He is a little chicken ;) so I was hoping that some kind of vibrating device, similar to the one you use to keep the pooches off couches, would help. Oh well. Thanks anyways. |
