A local Greenies scare!! My friend Cindy from Greensboro had to visit the vet yesterday. Poor little Buddy has colitis. While there, her vet told her a shocking story!!:eek: "Oh---I forgot to tell you this! The vet told me that he had just operated on a Lab to remove one of those "greenies" that had not been digested/dissolved. He told me the company paid for the surgery & had him send him the greenie so they could examine it. He also told me they have too much protein in them. I have heard of Yorkies dying because of those things." DON'T let anyone tell you things ARE NOT dangerous!! They ARE!!:mad: |
Thanks for the information. I use to give my pom one all the time and when I got Cali she ate them too. When I read on YT the probelms I stopped giving them to the girls. I did not even think of the protein content at the time becasue I din't know about her liver disease th the time. Now that I keep her on lower protein diet I have started to look a the protein in treats and wow some have 60% protein. I have been gviving then the Nylabone Healthy Edibles bones. They have a lot of different flavors and 2 only have 1% protein the others have over 60 %protein. |
When I saw them at my vet I asked why they are still carrying them. They said it's safe to give them if you are watching the dog. Totally ridiculous answer if you ask me. I think they should be pulled off the shelves everywhere because there were too many accidents and some of them fatal. :mad: :mad: :mad: |

Why are Greenies still being sold? How many animals have to die before they are pulled from the shelves??? Max used to LOVE them but as soon as I heard that dogs were dying from them I threw the opened package away and returned the bag that I had not opened to PetsMart. The woman at PetsMart actually asked me why I was returning them. I thought to myself, have you NOT seen the news about them lately :confused: |
I bought a brand new bag of them...Gave 1 to Sadie and then read(not here but,,,somewhere) that they are NOT 100% digestible...And, that they can get lodged in the dogs intestines:eek: !! I don't give them to Sadie anymore...in the matter of fact my Mom doesn't give them to her Mini Schnauzer anymore either...Why would they make something like that?! I use Denta Delicious Bones...If anyone here has heard anything about these would you please let me know...I don't let her chew without me around...Sadie bit off a little chunk (and they are very very hard) and with her little mouth she couldn't chew it good...I had to go in after it! Guess what?! She hasn't had that in a while either! |

I had always given them to her since she I got her from the breeder because she told me she loved them... One Sunday she puke and it had a big chuck on a greenie in it... Didnt think much about it just thought she ate it too fast. Later on in the day she begin puking more but still acting her usually self.. we called the vet but they said that it probably upset her stomach, not to worry since she was acting ok. Well by Monday morning when I woke up, she had puke a million times in her cage and was a very sick dog. I rushed her to vet and they came out and told me that they done xrays and she had a greenie lodged in her intestines and that it had wripped a small hole in them and she had been bleeding internally. She was to week to do any surgery and the vet said she would not make it... He suggested to put her to sleep... Well I just couldnt do it.. but them I seen the pain she was in and how terrible she felt and they did it... She was the best dog I'd ever had. So please dont give greenies...:thumbdown :thumbdown |

What exactly are the greenies? I've seen green chews, but Nylabone also has green chews. So I'm really confused. |
Greenies are a brand of green treats that are supposed to clean your pup or cat's teeth. Thank God we never gave Mia Greenies. We give C.E.T HEXtra chews that we get from our vet's office (only one a day). She can never finish them anyway. They don't break off into smaller pieces though. When Mia spends 20 mins chewing on one, it just becomes very soft and gooey. Mia loves'em, and it's supposed to help clean her teeth. |
