how long can you keep a dog in a bag? How long can you keep your dogs in these little carriers: example Celltei? I have a small size and my yorkie is long legged (7.8lbs). Same length as a 5.5..just with longer legs. He can get up and move in the small I have but can't really stand up to his full height. I don't know how long I can keep him in there without it being too much for him? suz |
I let Mia out as soon as she starts whining. I think the max. she stayed in was 20-30 minutes. She only whines when she needs to go potty, and I don't like to test her patience. She is still a baby, so she goes bathroom more often, especially when she is excited. Once Mia gets out for a bit, she doesn't mind going back in. Also, Mia's bag is huge for her at the moment, so she isn't too cramped. |
I think every puppy will be different as to their tolerance. If he likes to stand and can't really do it in your bag, then I would probably get a larger one. Sissy doesn't like being in a bag at all. She prefers to be carried (spoiled rotten). I feel fortunate that she loves her new car seat, so at least that problem is solved!! Based on some of the posts here and the many places folks take their pups, it seems like some of them are in the bag for a while and really enjoy it. Not sure I'm helping here!!! |
Annika loves being in her celtei bag. She was in it a whole lot when we took her to Seattle. She is either sleeping or her head is peeking out . . . all she cares about is being right next to me and she is happy. We went for some dimsum and snuck her in. The bag was right next to my daughter so she started whining . . . Myka immediately passed me the bag (under the table of course  ) and so I had to unzip the top so she can stick out her head and I touched her a bit and she was happy and went right back in . . .complete silence afterwards . . . good thing the restaurant was a bit noisy otherwise we probably would have been kicked out  |
2-3 hours, although I try not to leave her in that long. Usually, she's very quiet and falls asleep and sometimes doesn't want to come out when the zipper opens up. One time, while traveling to my mom's in LA, I let her sleep in there due to mosquitos and she was fine. It's a bigger bag, probably the size of her taxi/crate |
When I first got Ginger, I bought her a pink Juicy and it turned out to be a huge waste of money. She did not like being in there at all—even for a few minutes—and I felt cruel making her. We tried it about three times and decided it wasn’t for us…..Anyone want to buy a Juicy? lol :p |

Des - Do you mind showing me or telling me which Celtei carrier you got for Annika? I have been looking at them for Murphy but I am having a hard time deciding. Right now I just have a cheap one from target but I do not like the cut out on the side. Thanks! |
3 Attachment(s) I just received a Celltei carrier for Cali from a dear friend and love it. I have the XS and Cali is 4.5lbs. She settles doen in it and just curls up with her head perched on the center opening. I had to take my sister to the airport yesterday early so I decided to take Cali with and we hit Chicago rush hour traffic and I got lost. So Cali was in it 2 1/2 hours and never wanted to get out. She could have gotten out the opening if she wanted but was happy just sitting it her bag. I really think they are great bags. |
I'm thinking abou thaving them custom make one I"m thinking about having them custom make one for me so I can make it a little taller. Sparks is getting used to it but I think he would like it even better if he could sit up when I have him in for long periods. He is super nosey and I think this would curb his craving...ha! I have the XS pack o pet which is okay if he can stick his head out but too small too cramped for his size (zipped up). I have the back pack o pet small...but if it was just a little bit longer and a little taller I think it would be perfect for how he is. The medium was WAY too big. Way to wide and not good for trying to be discreet. suz |
I don't think dogs should be in bags for longer than strictly necessary. If they have to be,then the bigger the bag the better. I don't personally use one. If I am going somewhere where Holly can't come in and be held or sit at my feet, then I leave her at home. I manage to integrate her into a lot of my life. Shopping I do by myself--much more relaxing for me and better for her to be playing at home. |
I had a yorkie before who LOVED his crate and bags. He loved to play...but he would much rather go go go and sit and watch in a bag then stay at home alone. He was a real "go" type dog and very nosey. He would sit on the picnic table and watch the little league game for hours...yet he could hike for 2hrs and had SO much energy. I think some really do enjoy going places and watching people...and I think some dogs would rather stay home. I think I need to find a bigger bag (not too big for airline regulations) for him to stay in longer (like if I have to take him to work with me) and a smaller bag that is more comfortable (maybe a little taller so he can sit up) so that it doesn't look obvious when shopping yet he is comfortable. suz |
