Dog food. Hey guys, my baby is getting ready to make the transition from puppy food to dog food. Which dog food is the best? |
Mine are still puppies, but I will probably continue on with the brands that they are used to. I feed mine several brands, but they seem to prefer royal Canine. |
There isn't one "best" food, it depends on your dog. You just need to know what ingredients to look for. Stay away from by-products, corn and preservatives. I feed Loki Canidae. It's got all the good stuff in it and a 5lb bag costs about $6, which he eats in about 4-5 weeks. Not bad right? Other good brands are Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, California Natural, Merrick. Those aren't the only good ones. Loki does well on Canidae because it has probiotics and omega 3 in it. If you need other suggestions, let me know! I have the whole list. Also, don't go to Petsmart expecting to find these. Everything at the grocery store is junk and the only ones from Petsmart I'd consider is maybe the Nutro, but I'd have to read the label. PetCo has Natural Balance Ultra Premium, which is fine, but Loki had diarrhea on that (also on the Royal Canin, which has a lot of corn in it... we learned our lesson). We get Canidae from Loki's trainer or from Pet Supplies Plus. One of the local dog boutiques carries all the good ones too! |
Has anyone had any experience with Nature's Logic? Looks like all the right stuff is in it, but I wanted to know if anyone has heard good/bad about it. Nature's Logic Natural Chicken Dinner Fare Canine Formula Guaranteed Analysis: Crude Protein (min) 36 Crude Fat (min) 15 Moisture (max) 9 Crude Fiber (max) 6 Omega 6 Fatty Acids (min) 4.05 Calcium (min) 2.1 Phosphorus (min) 1.3 Omega 3 Fatty Acids (min) 0.99 |
nature logic seem so high in protein for a regular house dog. i feed boy my boys natural balance potato and duck. |
Bailey eats Natural Balance, Nutro- Lamb and rice. With no problems. |
I was a huge fan of Innova EVO, but I have switched to Canidae.....The ingredients are "human grade" and the Canidae is about 1/2 the price of the Innova. The kids love it! |
I am a fan of Innova also. Mine are finishing up their last bag of the Innova Puppy & then I'll go to Innova Adult. I also like Wellness & Canadae(sp?). |

I personally like Innova, Authority, and Wellness in dry and canned version. |
I use wellness puppy food. I am thinking of changing though because my yorkie seems to have grown board with it; my lab puppy still eats it like he hasn't had a meal in days..lol. I thought about canidae all stages before I even got wellness but wasn't sure if "all stages" is really good for puppies.. . Is it ok to give all stages to puppies and adults? I think they recommend giving puppies more food to get the nutrition puppies need but I have trouble getting Hannah to even eat a good amount now. |
I feed mine Canidae and I love this brand. I used to feed Innova Puppy Dry and I change to Canidae. Siu Pao loves it and its so much cheaper than Innova and the store near my house sells it. I mix it with yogurt, veggie, cottage cheese so that he won't get bored with it and so far, he is doing good on it. |
