not the best food @ petco & petsmart why doesn't petco and petsmart sell better quality food???? after doing research on y/t about dog food i found these national retailers don't carry the high end better quality food. i feel like i have to drive all over town to get my supplies. do they have something against organic? |
I have often wondered the same .I use to get so irrated to go in there with the reps promoting different foods.I feed Innova and I buy it at Lemos.Rocco is doing so well on it . |
i wouldn't exactly say that. petco carries Wysong, Solid Gold, Eagle Pack, Natural Balance (which has an organic formula) and they are all premium dog foods. imho, petsmart doesn't have as good a selection but they do carry Royal Canin and Ultra which are pretty decent. |

I agree its a complete shame they dont sell better quality food. I would really think they would. |
At my Petco the best food there is Royal Canin. |
Good pet food What qualifies a food as "good?" I saw lots of "good" brands at PetSmart. I saw the Royal Canin, Eukanauba, Science Diet, and at least one organic brand if not more. I even saw a food specifically for Yorkies. I think it was by Royal Canin, but not sure. Anyway, I don't know what constitutes "good" but if it's good enough for the vet to sell, it should be good enough for my dog. :-) Don't shoot me, but I've been feeding Zoie Puppy Chow since I brought her home. :-) I do plan to get something else from PetSmart when it runs out. |
I give Daisy Authority from Petsmart. Its oven baked, no corn, all natural. The one I give her is chicken and veggies I believe, for less active older dogs (she's 7) she loves it and its very reasonable. |
shadow, you said you feed innova. do you feed the refular innova or the innova evo? i heard that since its so full of protein some dogs can't tolerate it. I have my cat on innova evo, but since he's feline, and they are more carnivorous then canines, he has no problems handling it. |

Mom & Pop pet supplies stores/feed stores deal with small companies and Petsmart/Petco deal with large corporations. There is no way that small companies could possibly meet the demands that large chains places on them like delivery times, amount of stock produced, etc. |

I was at our local health store yesterday and noticed they had two endcaps devoted to all natural dog food and products. There were several different brands and many different products..I was impressed! You might want to try your local health food store. |
I get Natural Balance form Petco. I consider it to be a quality food. My dog has allergies and I had to do lots of research. |

Thanks for the help. What do you think about the Authority brand at Petco? I bought the Harvest Baked bag of Puppy Chicken and it looks okay to me. It has veggies in it and chicken and it didn't look like it had lots of fillers in it. Anyone? |
We get Nutro from petsmart. :) It's the only food I can feed Ginger without her scratching all her hair off! |
I asked once and I was told that IAMS (Eukanuba) and all of those PAY for the stores to put their stuff out front. I went in our Pet Supplies Plus recently and I noticed they moved all of that junk to the back of the store - good for them! It's hard to get a straight answer at Petsmart because they just argue that they do carry good food. One manager had a sense of humor about it and told me I should just lower my standards. PSP is kind of a chain, but more like a franchise. Do you think maybe that's why they sell the good brands? There is NO excuse for Petsmart and some of the other big chains not to carry decent food. PetCo carries NB, which is acceptable but in our case Loki had diarrhea on it, and there was no other decent choice. Lucky for us we have a PSP. I think Petsmart and the companies that make the junk food just count on people not knowing better. I was in front of a guy buying some off-brand cheapo dog food at the grocery store and it said "Complete Nutrition" on the bag. I read the label and there was nothing good in it! Buyer Beware I guess. Loki's food costs a whopping $5 a month for top quality. There is NO excuse to buy that junk. |
i use BLUE which is a total organic food it compares closely with royal canine. My dogs love it and its good for them. I get that at Petsmart. A friend recommended it to me. Have any of you heard of it? Melinda Sassy and Simba |
I get my dog food @ petsmart "Royal Canin" I hear its the # 1 food for Yorkies:cool: Well its expensive enough:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
