Prairie Raw Frozen Dietsd I would like to know if anyone is usint Prairie Raw Frozen Diets. My Yorkie just turned 4 months old and Is 2 lbs.+ and adores it. I'm a little hesitant because the meat is "raw". However, the ingredients in it are awesome. Any comments? |
I feed my Coco and Pebbles Nature's Variety Prairie raw medallions for dinner. They love it and are doing very well on it. |
Do a search for raw diets within the form. There's a few threads about it... Pixie has been on a raw diet for the last 4-5 months. I haven't had any problems what-so-ever and feel that she's healthier because of it. (She had dry skin and the itchies before I switched). I rotate between beef, chicken, turkey, lamb and venison. She also gets a variety of "people" food (cottage cheese, cherios, fruit, veggies, etc). I found a holistic vet in my area that advocates a raw diet... Perhaps you could find one in your area that you could talk to about any concerns you may have. |
this is very interesting to me and I want to learn more about raw foods. I just made up that meatball recipe for pups today but I am concerned as to how much to feed each day? I assume you should start slowly just like when switching foods? Kim already gets lots of raw veggies and fruit, cottage cheese. |
I switched Pixie over cold turkey. I didn't have a single problem... If you switch your dog over suddenly, just watch for any constipation or stomach irritations. Not every dog can handle eating it! I'm also sure to brush her teeth more often and clean her beard since food gets stuck in there so easily. Nature's Variety has a calculator on their site you can use to help determine how much dry/raw food to feed your dog. Pixie is about 3lbs and gets 2oz of raw meat a day. I used the calculator as a guide, but it isn't perfect for every dog. If we have a really active day, I'll give her an extra half ounce or so... And if she starts to feel chubby (too many people treats! How can you say no to that face?!), I cut back a bit on the raw food and lay off the treats until she's back to normal... Google BARF diet and you should be able to find tons of websites with information on feeding raw. |
