Which is the best Flea & Tick Protection for Yorkie ? I would like to know, which is the best product to use on yorkieto protect them against fleas & tick. I already us revolution on my Rotties , which is great it protects them agains fleas ,tick and heartworms . but I'm afraid to get it for Nemo because of his weight. he is less than 2 lbs.Can any one recomend one ? which is good and not harmful. He never goes out for long but I'm just afraid a flea or something might jump on him, so I want to protect him without harmiong him.. also what products are good to deworm again he dosen't have anything now but I rather protect against rather than treat. |
We switched to Frontline Plus and it has worked SO well. I still see fleas from time to time - I can't seem to get them out of the yard, but as soon as I apply the Frontline Plus, they are gone for at least a month. :) |
I applied Carter's Frontline Plus tonight and was ready his box. It says it actually controls fleas for 3 months and lice/ticks for one month. Even though ticks really aren't a problem here in south Louisiana, fleas are. I've been using it on Carter monthly and it has seemed to do the trick so far. |
My vet gave me advantage for my 8 week old. We are only to use half of the normal amount though. |
Thanks, I try one of them. Like I mention thank god he dosen' have fleas or ticks, but I jus rather be safe than sorry  |
I've never thought about getting flea/tick stuff for Stewie. Should I even though I have never seen one around here? |
It might be a good idea StewiesMom, we didn't let Yoda get in contact with any dog last year and he still got fleas somehow. Fleas are everywhere! :( |
^^ Exactly. Otis wasn't around any animals at least for two weeks, and he had a flea on him the other night. I think we as humans can be a flea carrier, bringing them back home from work or the public, and they hop on our dogs. |
i use advantage and it works really well......... DO NOT use biospot, that didnt work at all...... also, fleas can build up a resistance to flea medication so you might want to consider switching off every couple of months |
I always use Advantage . |
I think I am a moron. Let me get this straight. If we don't live on a farm or near a wooded area and the only dog he comes in contact with is my brother's Sharpei who is also not on any flea prevention, I should still use flea stuff? I really had no idea. I thought it was mostly for "country" dogs (or you know what I mean). I am surprised my vet didn't mention it to me. |
It's okay, Stewie's Mom, we all gotta learn somehow. I think for preventative measures, it's best that you do use flea protection. We could be carrying fleas for all we know, as Junebug says. |
Doesn't anybody use the Revolution? It's the heartworm prevention with the flea stuff in it. Pita weighs 3 pounds and I use it on her, it's been tested at 10 times the dosage on dogs and none of them reacted so it's ok for small dogs. It just doesn't repel fleas it only kills them if they bite your dog. I need something in addition to the Revolution to repel them. So I am looking into giving her K9 advantix also Mostly dogs get fleas from the ground or their environment not so much from each other so if your dog is outside at all he could get fleas. |
???? Has anyone used Hartz or Sargents? Lil Bear gets Frontline cause she is allergic to the Hartz stuff. The vet gave Moose Advantage when she was treated for the evil tapeworms....and it's about time for another application and I don't like advantage and I wanted to see anyones experience with the two products I mentined above, |
I tried the Hartz products when we first got Sandy - - they did NOTHING at all for us. I wouldn't recommend them - frontline is more expensive but well worth it to us. |
