Online buying of heartworm preventative ok? Is buying heartworm preventative offline ok? I know it's a bad idea to purchase it from stores like walmart bc they can sit back in storage for goodness knows how long and can go bad and lose their potency. But I was wondering if ordering off a website like 1-800-pet-meds is ok? Will the meds be up to date? I'm only wondering bc I can save sooo much money by ordering offline instead of buying from my vet. But I will choose the vet if it's more reliable even if it is more expensive. |
i'm not sure about 1 800 pet meds b/c i have never ordered from there. But i buy the heartworm pills from the humane society for a lot cheaper. I'm not sure if all humane society's sell them but i think the ones with the clinic service do selll them. I get mine from Houston Humane Society. |
My vet gave me the prescription which I was able to FAX to entirelypets.com Their meds always have reasonable expiration dates. (I ordered a 12-month supply of Heartgard Plus.) The order arrived in a couple of days. I also ordered Frontline from them. My vet told me his prices are always higher than ordering online. He encouraged me to order from wherever I could get the best price. After all, he knows I'll be back to visit for our regular Dr. appointments. BTW, If you sign up, you can get their regular emails with notification about special prices/coupons. Here's the info about March discounts from the email: Use the coupon code FLEAFREE and enjoy $3.00 off any purchase of $45 or more* Combine that with our FREE SHIPPING over $100.00. I have used 1-800-petmeds and have been very pleased. Because I have so many Yorkies, I have to look at the most reasonable. I have also used entirelypets.com and have found them to be great also. Also, one of my vets wants to charge me $12.00 to give me a written prescription so I can order online, which burns me up. But, I believe that because of the large volume of folks ordering online, you don't need to worry about the medicine being outdated. |
I think I have gotten meds from pet shed.com and it has always been much cheaper and seemed to have done the job. |
I guess it depends on the vet and med and such too...I just got Daisy 6 months worth of Interceptor from the vet for $19..thought that was pretty cheap! |
I've ordered both from my vet and Pet Meds....it's way cheaper online...but to be safe.... I went back to getting mine at the vet ....I have really no idea why  I probably should go back to ordering online as I think the medication is as safe as what the vet sells. |
I use pharmaceutical quality Ivermectin...When it comes from the company, it comes with a recipe for mixing it in solution and the dosage is included.. I have done this for several years. It is made for injection but is also effective when given orally. I give 70 mcg of Ivermectin every 30 days..the amt in Heartgard is 68mcg so I am very close to that dosage.. |
meds No vet prescription is needed when you order from Petshed... |

What is the website for Petshed? Is it www.petshed? |
Sorry! Just read Thorsmomma which includes the website |
i get mine from my vet... $4 a month and i can just pick it up i dont know if that is expensive or not but they have it on hand at the vet office... and i feel safer getting it from them seeing they are constantly turning stock w/all the dogs coming in so it (should) always be a current exp date... |
i was wondering this as well. I need to order Frontline. to get to my vet at lunch it's a hassle. |
