Console Lookout I would like some help and comments. I saw something called a Console Lookout (straps to the center console in the car, looks like a comfortable bed) and was thinking of getting Meeko one. I have a really really small car and this might be just the thing for him to ride with me. Any thoughts from those of you who may already have one? Any suggestions as to where I can find the best price? |
I have considered getting this one too, but the only thing stopping me is that it may be too small. Millie is only 4.5 lbs, but I think even she would have only room to sit up in it and not lie down in it comfortably. The regular console can only hold a pet up to 4 lbs. Only the SUV console can hold a pet up to 8 lbs. So depending on the size of your puppy or the size it is expected to get, this may not be the best option. |
Hi Lady, actually I have seen three sizes. Meeko is 4.11 lbs and will be about 5 to 6 fully grown. You are right that the small one is really small. I laid him in it at the store, too small. The SUV one is way to big for my car. There was a size in between but it was $100. It will be a little snug in my car, but it has a foam bottom which will give a bit. But it is a perfect size for him. |
I have never seen the "in between" size. Where did you find it? I can tell you that I have the regular Lookout car seat and I really love it. I think the $100. price is a little steep. I know you can get the console car seats on Petsnap - free shipping and the small console goes for $51.00 and the SUV goes for $65.00. But they don't sell the "in between" size, unless it's listed under another category. |
I have a console carseat and I swear I don't know where I got it - somewhere on the internet. I can only find the shipping receipt which is from O'Donnell Industries - which is probably the warehouse, rather than the distributor. The shipping receipt calls it the large denim console. You can see it on ebay - the aution has ended, but here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=20745 Scroll down to the bigger pix by itself where it says U.S. 58.00. I just measured Rowdy's (he loves it by the way) and it is 12" wide on the outside and 8" on the inside. It is wider than my console (I have an Impala) but it is made of foam and it just squeezes together between the seats and it works just fine. My hubby has a mini pickup and it even fits on that little console. Rowdy is 4 1/2 lbs and it fits him perfectly. |
Here is one site http://www.snoozer-dog-beds.com and the YT member Precious pups sells them also and you get a discount. |
I was thinking about getting one of those also. I have a suburban witgh a console that is solid excpt for the door that opens the console kinda like a storage compartment. I was wondering how it is installed. Anyone that could tell me? |
We have the small console carseat and Magic fits perfectly in it....she is 5lbs but can easily sit and lay down in it!!! She loves it because she is so close to us and can see out as well....Sailor has the regular lookout because she is bigger and she loves her's as well, they both love to go in the car because they know they get to use their carseats!!! I would defintely recommend both of them.... |
I have the small console carseat, it fits Pita perfect, she's 4 pounds, but sometimes she wants to curl up in a ball and she can't, she fits in it just right laying down with no room to spare. We love it tho! She goes everywhere with us and it keeps us all happy, she's not jumpin around in the car and I can still be right there with her. I really recommend it. If your car can handle a bigger one I would get it. A bigger one wouldn't fit in my car, the one I have fits perfectly and it matches my interior too! |
So I found the middle sized console and it was delivered yesterday (almost two weeks faster than the site had stated). I was so excited. I put Meeko in it and he loves it. While in the house, he uses it as a bed. When we go places, we take it to the car and he jumps right in. I feel good knowing that he is secure in his console lookout. I paid only $59.00 and got free shipping. Its great for small pups up to 10 or 12 lbs. Meeko is 4 lbs and 12" long. He fits in it wonderfully. |

lookout we have the regular lookout carseat. i didn't get the console version because i feel the front of the car is unsafe. it was about $100 bucks. i bought it for safety. romeo kept falling off the seat. well, it was worth it. we were in a horrible car accident. i was taken away in an ambulance and it took almost a year to recover. romeo was fine. the paramedic said it was a miracle. the car looked like a tuna can and romeo just hopped out. i was out cold and after i woke up i reached back to feel for romeo. he started licking my hand immediately. my fiance unhooked him and he sat with me til i went to the hospital. the car seats are expensive, but worth every penny. thanks to lookout carseats my baby is alive. i tell everyone to get one. don't walk. run out to get one. |

Sandy thanks for letting me know, I wasnt sure how it would be installed & now I do :D . Do you mind if I ask why you didnt get the larger console after your pups outgrew the smaller one? I just hate to buy one and she hates it....if you know what I mean...lol |

Could you tell me where to find the middle sized one? I have a Yukon, but I think the SUV one is too large for what I need. Thanks! |

Meeko's console seat doesn't have the storage drawer. But from what I've read and heard, that drawer isn't all its cracked up to be. Anyway, it has three straps on the bottom. One in the front, which goes underneath the console and two in the back to strap to the driver and passenger's sides. I got it at www.hunterk9.com. You can choose small, regular or SUV size. And you get to choose your fabric. Again, Meeko LOVES his. We were driving around today, even drove to Lincoln Road and South Beach and he rode in it the whole day. I have just about every lookout seat available because of my large gang and I use everyone depending on the situtation. You might want to read the following thread as what is the safest place for your dog in an accident. I should have know better as I work for a car company and it does make sense that the safest spot is in the middle of the car. A console seat is safe as the airbags don't expand into that area but I find the easiest for me is the lookout in the middle of the backseat. I hope this helps. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ight=car+crash |
carseat we have the regular sized lookout carseat. romeo is about 5lbs and i think it's perfect. we bought it at a local specialty shop called jakes dog house. i only have 1 furbaby. if i get another furbaby a will get another lookout seat and put them side by side in the backseat. i saw them cheaper on dog.com and drfostersandsmith.com. ours has the drawer on the bottem. a great feature to store treats, clothes, exc. we also have the feeding tray that attaches to the side. we bought this at jakes dog house also for about $20. romeo doesn't really like the feeding tray. i have to slide the cups out for him to eat and drink when we park. although, it helps prevent spills! |
carseat wow. it makes sense that the center of the car is the safest. i think i will reconsider the console version. keep in mind, when we totaled our car the passenger airbag was huge. i think it may hit the console area depending on the make and model of vehical. we had a lexus es300 sedan. just a 4 door car. i will check with the manufactor of my new car about airbag size. oh.. also the airbag was so large it hit the rearview mirror and it flew off striking my fiance in the head and causing injury. i don't think romeo could have taken the impact from the rear view mirror flying off. our accident was a high speed impact. most accidents i am told are fender benders at intersections. thanks for your input. especially from the yorkie lover that works for the car company. |
