Getting Ready for new Puppy Hey guys, I just want to hear what everybody thinks I should do to prepare for my new puppy coming home in 20 days. I thought about getting a playpen with his crate put in it. Some pee pads, small dishes, puppy food, toys, and a collar. I am sure there is more. Can you help me on this? Thanks, Leigh |
You should probably get a harnass too, that's better to walk them on than a collar. Also, some nutrical. It's good for if they get hypoglocemic. I personally haven't had to use it for both my pups, but it's good to have just in case. Definitely get some treats too, especially if you plan on rewarding going to the bathroom with treats. I do and think it helps, especially at first. I'm sure there are other things, but that's all I can think of for now. I'm sure others willl respond! Good luck and have fun, buying all kinds of stuff is half the fun! :p |
One thing I always recommend for new puppy owners is to buy "Dogs for Dummies" -- it isn't breed specific, but a great all around guide to owning a dog. I still look at mine from time to time and have read it cover to cover A LOT! :) It's nice to have a reference around the house, I have my Dogs for Dummies and Yorkie Talk ;) |

Something I found which was kinda nice to have was a little warming pad. I found it at petco. It had little bead pillows inside of it. You warm it up in the microwave. Also I put a stuffed bear in his sleeping area and he would curl up and sleep around it. They can go through a little anxiety sometimes when you first bring them home so anything that gives comfort like a warm blankie (warmed up in the dryer)can go along way. |
