Car seats worth it or no? That pretty much sums it up. Ongoing (tiny argument not fight, discussion) discussion in our house, Husband says not worth it, I think it is. I've read pretty much equal things online. Any one use one, and which kind do you use. |
I really wish my Ruger would use his car seat. I tried & tried & tried. He would hang himself trying to get out. More distracting to me while driving than just letting him ride in the car. I know it's not good, but we don't go very often. Mostly when two of us go so one can hold him. |
We use a car seat every day - strapped in safe and sound! We have a snoozer and a pet gear seat. Like the heated pet gear seat in the winter. Safest place for a dog to be other than in a crate probably. Couldn't be without one! |
I use this device that straps around the seat belt. It is a thick piece of leather that velcros and snap around the seat belt so it is very secure. And then I have 2 short leashes that I attached them with. I used to have one of those console seats and a car seat but I like this much better. I keep a blanket in the back that I put on the seat for them. And the cup holder always has treats in it so they don't mind it either! |
I love them. They let the dog look out and keep them safe! They last a very long time too. |

1 Attachment(s) For me a booster seat was a MUST due to Cody got car sick. I needed something that was elevated off the seat of the car. I selected from Pet Supplies Tagalong Pet Booster Seat…large size holds up to 18 Lb dog. Basket dimensions: 16” W x 14”D x 8” H. Cody is 12 pounds so I got the size large so he could curl up and lie down. This has been a life saver for me, no more car sickness and he now LOVES going in the car. He can see out of the window and sits like a king on a throne. |

The only reason I use it is to avoid a driving violation, I've been warned before. Kaji hates it to be honest. After a few minutes he'll settle in and just hang out until we get where we're going. With a packed car, he hangs out with a passenger in the back seat. I have a tiny car, so I can't have a permanent car seat in my car, otherwise I wouldn't be able to accommodate my whole family. After the awful Vdubs recall, my car is now the biggest car we own. :p |
I must be the only one who doesn't think car seats are worth it. For me, I like to put my babies in their dog carriers and have the carriers secured into the seat with the seat belt. It took some training, but during our car rides they now nap comfortably in their dog bags. With them in their bags, it's less of a distraction for me while I'm driving so I feel it's safer for me and for them. |

Though, I know Casie does get car sick sometimes. I have to always make sure not to take her out if she ate within an hour or two. |

Just like with children, I see car seats, not only as a way for a dog to see out, but mainly for safety. If you have an accident with a loose dog in the car they become speeding missiles and their chances of survival without injury are small. Not worth the risk for me. Sort of like when my son was a child - seat belt fastened - no exceptions! He did not like the seat belt, but he learned to use it or stay home. |
