Seresta tick and flea collar Hi. Thanks for excepting me. I put a seresta collar on my 4 month old puppy today. She had 3 fleas. She is lethargic and refusing food after 4 hours. I removed the collar. Trying to feed her chicken and rice. Anyone had this problem before? She weighs 5 pounds. |
I made a bunch of my group sick with dadgum flea collars....I have never used them since! Some of my group became lethargic, and a couple of them started twitching!! I went crazy, grabbing dogs, removing flea collars, and giving baths with lots of Dawn dish soap around their necks where those collars touched.....have never used a flea collar since then! Then I told my brother about it, and he reminded me YEARS ago, back in late 60's, we put flea collars on our Chihuahua and his Beagle....both dogs became very ill with neurological issues....I had forgotten that event.....such a traumatic issue/event, I can not imagine how I ever forgot that..... Shampoo her neck area immediately, even tho it has been a while since you put the collar on/took it off....remove any residual flea med from her neck....Dawn kills fleas on contact....use Frontline spray to control fleas....I use it sparingly on their necks and heads/ears to help control the flea invasion we are having here since the flooding we had earlier in the year.....I have NEVER had this horrible time with fleas.....I spray my yard, my dogs, we use spot treatments, monthly pills, etc.....They say we are in for a horrific winter...goood thing, maybe we can get a grip on the insects we have been plagued with this year. |
I removed the collar 2 hours ago. She is eating! |
WASH OFF HER NECK!!! You need to remove the residual medication! |
Seresta tick and flea collar Thanks. I did bath her. She vomited again. Feeding her small portions of chicken and rice. I contacted the vet where I purchased the collar. According to them it's a first. The collar is supposed to last for 8 months. I was told to remove the collar and contact the supplier. |
Wow! Didn't know all that! This is what YT is so great about! I use Revolution monthly and the Seresto collar only when we hike and do field work. Never had that problem, but then you never know! Good information! |
Excellent and helpful information. Thanks so much. |
I would never use a collar with insecticide on it. There is no method to control how much chemical your pet is absorbing. Tropical flea meds (the spot ons) are at least adjusted by weight. It's good you took it off. Those were sure signs that she was not tolerating it well. Get a flea comb if you do not have a big flea problem. Comb her with it a couple times a day to get rid of anything she may have picked up. Use it after she has been outside too. Vacuum often and empty it outside. If you do have a big flea problem vacuuming and using a topical spot on product (like Advantage II) should get things under control. We use Advantage II but only during the flea season which is about 4 months out of the year where we live. |
Seresto tick and flea collar Hi. After talking to vet's we decided to try the collar again. I put it on when I was at home to monitor. No reaction from my puppy. It was obviously an coincidence. We all know puppies eat and bite everything. I think the collar is safe to use on Yorkies. |
I have a little 2 pounder and if not for the 8 month collar for fleas, my baby would have died from flea infestation. I hope your baby is better now. |
