Dry Skin Remedy Suggestions I am needing something for my biewer as he just got a short cut and I now see flakes in his hair. I had not seen that before because his coat was long. He is not scratching nor does he appear bothered by it. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
We fight the dry skin thing as well. We have come to love Dermoscent Essential 6 spot on. |
What food do you feed, and what kind of hair products do you use? You might try changing those up, or adding a little organic coconut oil or fish oil to her diet. |

Organic coconut oil is another choice. I like Nutiva and Cocotherapy. Start slow, a little taste. Too much can cause diarrhea. |
Espree makes an Aloe Hydrating Spray that has some pretty good ingredients in it. I've used it on my pups when they had flaky skin from the heaters in winter. If you part their hair so it mists on their skin, it should help moisturize the skin & the coat too. I used to have them lie down on their backs & mist their bellies too. It worked for us:) |
I forgot to add...it works better if you mist it on the skin multiple times a day for the first day or 2. The flakiness should be gone in a few days. Then you can use it as a brush spray & spray it on the skin when needed. |

Looking it up now. Thank you! |
dog Watch the food with dry skin. I had a poodle and the derm dr. recommended a venison diet. It cleared her up. Of course it could be a grass allergy. I use the Espree and like it. I also get Hy-Lyte shampoo from my vet. Very good. I hope you get this solved. What shampoo do they use at the groomer? That could cause problems too. |

I groom him myself using espree products. Never thought about allergies, because he has no symptoms. How would I know if it is allergies, besides a vet visit? |
Flakes can also be hair products that have not been completely rinsed out at bathtime. If it is dry skin, I highly recommend coconut oil. You pup can eat it and you can also apply it straight on the coat and skin. I used this on Fluffy, one of the YTNR's fosters everyday while she was staying with me. In a week, her skin looked a million times better. |
Allerderm may help. It's really helped my Wylie's skin issues. |
