Step recommendations? Well, Cali figured out how to jump on the couch yesterday. Then this afternoon she jumped down and about scared the life right out of me! I think we need to buy a set of steps that we can use for both the couch and the bed so she won't hurt herself. The ones I looked at today at Petco seemed to be have awfully shallow treads and really deep rises. I don't think that would work for her at all. What types of steps do you all use? If you have pictures or links so I can get an idea of the size/shape that would be fantastic. TIA. |
I tried steps and ZoE wouldn't use them, she'd just jump instead. Then I found a small vanity bench (from a child's vanity) at a resale shop, and it works perfectly next to my bed. I have a padded footstool next to the sofa, and that works well too, as the sofa is much lower than my bed. |
That's a great idea. It would look a lot nicer, too. I think I'll make a run to Homegoods tomorrow to see if they have anything. |
I found out early Zoey liked to be elevated, if no more than 6 or 8inches....so I found some solid boxes for her to 'jump' on and topped them with inexpensive bath rugs from the dollar store, grey to match my tile. As she got older she wanted to look out the window which isn't quite floor length, so I got a bigger box put it under the window and then the smaller box to step up on. Works great. I bet you could do that for a couch too. |
I have a scalloped foam ramp thingie....it is not what I would call visually pleasing, but it isnt REAL ugly, and it keeps my babies safe and they have great traction on the scalloped surface, and it stopped the jumping on and off my bed as well as furniture in the sun room. After hurricane Ike and I pulled up all the carpet, I have stained concrete floors, so this ramp was an absolute necessity.... |

Lola likes it a lot, she even lays on it and rolls her toys down it. I don't think I would pay full price for it unless I had a 2-3lber. |
I have this for the sofa & love it, you can use it as a step or a ramp: For my bed, I have the plastic step you can get from the drug store, works well for us. |
I use the scamp ramp. It's foam and has a cover on it. They are a bit pricey but all of mine learned immediately to use them. |

I like the foam ramp idea, too. I'm wondering if I could go to an upholstery store and buy a piece to cut down and then make a cover. |
We have these which are foam and they work well. Majestic Pet 3-step Suede Pet Stairs | Overstock.com We also have tried these cheap ones from WalMart Brinkmann Deluxe Pet Steps - 3 Steps: Cats : Walmart.com and were very disappointed in them. Very small in size, made of honeycomb cardboard. Good luck! |
