Harness for puppy ? Hello, we'll be getting our Yorkie next year and I'm trying to figure out everything before. I read a lot on Choke-Free harness and how to measure your dog for it. But I cannot figure out what to use for a puppy ? I'm not sure how long Yorkie will grow for, and how rapid is the change, so I'm assuming you need adjustable harness ? Or do you have to get Choke-Free as he starts to outgrow it, and do so until specific age, when your dog no longer grows ? |

Hi.. I sell choke free and recommend to wait till they are older to order. It is hard to know what size your pup will be as an adult, and if you get too young you will be replacing as he/ she grows. Maybe get a used one or a cloth one that is less expensive until grown I'll be glad to help when you are ready. |
I used a cheap harness from Petco at first while my Milana was a puppy. When she turned about 10 months old, I finally got her choke-free velcro harness. I recommend waiting as well until your puppy reaches more adult size as true choke-free harness is not that cheap. |
I've used mostly Gooby harnesses on Nilla. They're pretty adjustable -- she wore a small through her first few months with me, and now she's been in, and has stayed in, a medium. I don't know if she was ever small enough for me to merit getting an extra small because she stayed inside until she had all of her puppy shots, and she's a teapot girl now so she grew pretty quickly! ^^ My in law's adopted a Yorkiepoo who was super scrawny when they got her, and the small has worked with her up until recently (she can still fit into it, but she's in between small and medium now because of a growing belly). I highly recommend the Gooby harnesses since they're really good for dogs who pull, and we know that puppies aren't exactly fond of the idea of being leashed and lead around! Lol! Good luck! ^^ |
I bought a nylon webbing harness at petsmart, I was lucky the one I wanted was on clearance so I only paid $10. It was a bit too big when I first got it, but it fits well now. I want to get a buddy belt when Lola's done growing. |
I use a buddy belt on my baby...I would wait until he is closer to full grown. I got mine when he was 5 months old. He's 8 months now, and it fits very well...it is adjustable. Congrats on the new puppy. |
Thank you all, I'll try my local pet store and see if they have something on sale for puppy. |
I got a small one at home goods. I also got a toy sized one at Walmart. You can also look for cat harnesses. |
I did not want to spend the money one a nice harness the pup would out grow. So while my boy was little and xxs harness did not fit I made one out of a sock, cut a hole for head and legs. Them sewed a ring on back for leash. Then I bought an inexpensive one, $7, on amazon until my pup is full grown. |
