Hairloss with Frontline I have used frontline plus for a very long time with no issues. The last 2 months Daisy has had hair loss. We took her to the Vet and the first month the area was measured and she took a picture. We took her for a recheck and the vet suggested to put the frontline higher up a little above the area bc hair was growing back. The day we went to the park we applied the frontline and Daisy was going nuts like it was burning her so we washed it off with water. The next day I noticed a new bald spot. We took her to the vet today and Daisy can no longer use Frontline plus, bc it is what was causing the hair loss. The Vet wants me to use trifexis for heartworm and fleas, and a collar called scalibor for ticks. I have read things about trifexis causing vomiting:( which makes me nervous. I did read that you can cut the pill in fours and give it over a 24 hr period. Also with Pixie going on heartgard do I cut the pill in half? It is for dogs up to 20lbs that seems like big weight gap 1-20lbs? Pixie is staying on the frontline plus she did have a little hair breakage where it was applied but I think I put her harness on too soon after it was applied:( |
YIKES, Poor thing. I would honestly stay away from Trifexis.. and I would not let her wear that tick collar. Have you looked into like Advantage or Advantix? I have been using Advantix since Peanut was a puppy and I never had a problem. |
You do not cut heartgard in half. It's fine to give the under 25-lb dose. We use fL and Hg. I use half doses of FL. |
When we ran out of Interceptor, we put Zhoie on Sentinel, on vets advise. Zhoie had her second dose of it last week and no differences from Interceptor were noticed. |

The Heartgard dose cannot be cut in half. You can cut it to make sure Pixie doesn't swallow it in one bite, but she has to have the whole thing in one dose to be effective. We also split our Frontline, but that probably wouldn't help Daisy. Poor girl. Sorry she had a reaction. |
We have ticks here so Daisy has to use something bc she has had lyme disease bit by another infected tick would probably put her over the edge. The Vet not want to use any topical bc of her reaction to it. The only other alternative is the collar. Maybe I will just use it when she goes outside.:( I am just worried about all this new stuff:( |

Oh no poor Pixie, hope she'll be ok. I've been using frontline plus for years & the recent batch we got must be off or something...it was making Turbo's skin brown & scabby like it burned him?:( So I switched to advantix & it gave Mimi blackheads & make all of them itch like cwazzie, they seemed so bothered by it. IDK what to do...I applied only .2ml of the frontline bc I saw a flea on Princess the other day. They seem to be doing ok, skin doesn't look irritated & I haven't seen another flea...yet. |

Pixie hasn't had a reaction to the frontline just had a little hair breakage where it was applied. It is weird bc I have used frontline on Daisy since she was a pup and now at 9.5 yrs old she has developed a reaction? I don't get it? |
dog My vet recommended Triflexis and that scalibor collar. I went on line and researched this stuff and said no to that. I do not want my Yorkie vomiting. After all my research I went with Revolution which I am very happy with. No reactions, no smell , I can bathe them if need be. I am very cautious where my yorkies go. I do not let them in the bushes or where the bugs will be. They cannot run in the grass. I brush them and flea comb them every night and brush their teeth. Please stay away from these strong poisons on these little dogs. I am so afraid of this stuff. I hate to use anything but my friend's poodle groomer goes with Revolution for her little ones so I did too. No hair loss, itching or pain. |

We do Heartgard and Advantage without issues. Yikes, I'm sorry she had such a bad reaction. |
The vet said no more topicals with Daisy so I am at loss as what to do....anyone use any homeopath stuff? |
I've heard of people using Diatomaceous Earth and some tea tree oils ... I've never tried DE, but some people HAVE had luck with it. I guess the tea tree oil would be more of a topical solution technically ... I think you can put DE into their water, and you can put it in and around your home too to ward off bugs. If anyone has any experience with those, please share! I personally administer Sentinel to Nilla (it is a monthly pill) because I tried a couple of homeopathic sprays without much luck (I never tried to Diatomaceous Earth, but was always curious about it). Trifexis and Comfortis are also pills that will treat fleas, but I switched from Trifexis because a lot of people were running into problems with it. Good luck! <3 |
I have never heard of Diatomaceous Earth I will have to check it out. Thanks so much:) |
