New Mother needs harness advice 1 Attachment(s) My husband and I have just adopted a 4 yr old female. I bought her a step in harness the other day but I'm wondering about the regular harnesses. We are new to the doggie scene and especially one that is inside. It's amazing how quickly we have fallen in love with her. So, I want to get her the best fit. She came with a normal collar which to me is just not pet friendly so we are getting her used to the harness. She is doing very well with it. I found one at the Doggie Boutique. Please look at it and tell me if you think this would work out for her as opposed to a step in harness. I want her to have something that feels comfortable to her. Thank you:thankyou2 |
Hello and welcome to yt. I personally like the step in harnesses. I get more control with it. The one that you show can put pressure on the neck. I worry about collapse trachea. |
Thank you. I have a step in for her but wanted to find a really cute one and saw this one but it wasn't a step in. Not having any experience with harnesses I just wasn't sure. It will definitely be a step in for her. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on the new addition to your family. :) I too prefer a step-in harness for the ease of putting it on the dog (nothing to go over the head, and no straps to fiddle with). Security, not being able to escape, is also important for my boys -- but depends on the dog. I also like that I can lift my boys safely in their step-in harness, or swing them, in an emergency. |
There is some great step in harnesses. There are buddy belt which are leather. We have Kristin (Maximo on YT). there is lovely silk step in harness by Cindy (Chattiesmom) and also choke free harness from Shinja ( littlesis). There is also some that I found that are less expensive nylon ones at petsmart on line. |
Harness I like the mesh step in Doggie Design. It has a simple Velcro and clasp top closure and is comfortable and easy to put on. Www.doggiedesign.com I just saw that they have a 20 percent sale on now! |

OP, definitely check out their sites! |
I also adore the buddy belts. As Verbena said, Maximo sells them at her dog boutique (Buddy Belt Harness). My dogs find them SUPER comfortable, they are easy to put on and off, they have tons of colors to choose from, and Kristin is amazing to work with! |
BTW...thank you so much for adopting this one! :) And welcome to YT! |
Welcome!! Glad you found us, looking forward to learning more about your newly adopted baby.. Yes they find a place in our heart very fast! I personally love the Buddy Belt. The first one I bought was probably.. 4 ish years ago and to this day it looks bran new. Pnut has been in water, lakes, beaches, snow, mountians,.. Etc in it and it doesnt phase it. Very sturdy, very comfortable. He has worn it all day and isnt bothered by it. It has super soft leather under the armpits so there is no redness or rubbing. I highly recommend the BB! I also couldnt tell you how many comments we get about it! |

We too prefer the step-in harnesses (Harry has a couple of Choke Free's - excellent!!) and they truly have saved his life.... We were on a boat last summer, and I jumped out to tie it up. Harry decided to follow me.... Thank goodness he had his harness on, with his long training lead attached. Andy was able to haul him up by it all, else he would have got squashed between the boat and the pontoon  Good luck with your decision! Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
I have 2 and I also use the Buddy Belt! I love the fit....no stress on the trach. It is also a step in and adjustable! I have had to lift my babies to safety and I have on fear of hurting them in this harness. Kristin is an awesome help with sizing & fit. :) |
Welcome to YT and ty for adopting your baby. Sounds like she hit the mommy jackpot with you. I wanted to share a thread that was posted not to long ago. Not only talking about the different harnesses members use but also pictures. Hope it helps. Welcome again and can't wait to see pictures of your baby girl. :D http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...6-harness.html |
