Sturdy ex-pen Titus has outsmarted me once again. He's able to climb over his metal ex-pen and or he charges at it and drags it all over the wooden floors. I was hoping someone can give me a suggestion on what ex-pen I should purchase? I want something sturdy so he can't push/charge at it (hurting him self or scratching the floors) and I want something where he can't climb over it. |
Once they've learned to climb, it's pretty much over. They'll try to climb over anything you put them in. I even tried one of those soft play pen things with a cover. My boy ended up chewing through the fabric netting on the door. He was even able to climb over an extra tall baby gate with horizontal bars. It might be better to leave him in a puppy proofed room with the door closed. That way, you won't have to worry about him injuring himself trying to make an escape attempt. Or a large crate. Good luck! I feel your pain :( |

If you or hubby does DIY, you can add 6" to a foot of ply wood around the edge (drill some holes in the wood and tie to the top bars). Wood long enough to sit on the top along the edge. It'll strengthen the cage, and stops dog climbing over the top. We also in the past, bought plexi glass to fit three sides of a pen, once again with holes drilled in. Tied to bars on the inside. Stops the climbing and makes pen more sturdy. |
1 Attachment(s) Richell makes a wood edged crate that has an expandable sides and floor up to 5 feet long, is trimmed in wire and has a wire top. It also has a divider if its a peepad dog if you want it. No way to get out of it...I love mine..I got it on wayfair.com they arent cheap but worth it for safety. |
Instead of a wire x-pen - try a fabric one instead. The one I got from Mighty Mite has a zip up lid so even if they manage to tip it over (which is hard for them since the pen also has a floor and as long as they are standing on the floor, they can't really push the walls over) they can't get out. I have a jumper who was able to climb and jump out of pens. It was really annoying until I discovered the cloth variety of pens: Folding Soft Sided Dog Exercise Pen |
