My first was a small black alex. The pockets annoyed me as they were just too small to hold much...ie: my wallet wouldn't fit in a pocket...so in hindsight if I was to buy a small, I'd go with the Alexa for the bigger pocket rather than 4 tiny pockets. My next was a large (much prefer the pocket size on the large) Alex putty with faux snake-skin trim & handles. It didn't hold up well at all. The handles started coming apart. Then I bought the faux patent black croc. That has been the most durable one, and the material holds itself a little more rigid than the others. But I got sick of just taking a black bag every time, so I got the gunmetal one. It is a thinner vinyl like the putty and more floppy then the patent croc. As to how long it lasts would depend on how hard you are on them, how well you care for your stuff, and how much your pup weighs (heavier dogs put more strain on the straps, base). Here's ZoE in the gunmetal, and then laying down inside the putty. |

ZoE is just under 10lbs, but she is long & tall, I couldn't squoosh her in the small anymore if I tried :p. Here's pics ZoE as a pup in her small black alex, and now in her large black croc alex. Hopefully, you can kinda see the difference in pocket size. |

It is a nice big, sturdy bag. ZoE could easily fit in this kind of bag too...and I liked the large side pockets. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it is a heavier bag. ZoE is heavy enough, so I don't want to add to the weight on my shoulder, but I bet it would be great for a lighter-weight pup. And it's a real leather bag, so it justifies the expense to me. Do the side pockets hold an ipad? I know they are big..just can't picture exactly how big. My large KB pockets will hold my ipad mini, but not an ipad. |
I've really enjoyed reading your comments and input, thank you so much! Especially love the pictures of the yorkies in their carrier, including their weight and size of the bag, it really is helpful. NY is quite an amazing city. Where I live, a simple dog purse carrier can often times go unnoticed, even with the mesh window exposed. But I'm not wanting to carry two purses around and his little purse now is not very comfortable to wear/tote. I'm a leather purse kind a woman and love this pup so having a leather purse/carrier is going to be great. If any of you that have a leather purse carrier(a dog up to 6 pounds) in good condition that you're no longer interested in using, are willing to sell & ship your purse, send me a p.m. Question: How are the leather purses in spring like temperatures? Are they breathable or too warm for the dog? |

A lot of people like the black alex... but kwigy bo keeps going out of stock:thumbdown I love the look of the gun metal grey.. you bought that one from me:) The kw are reasonbly priced, a little less then some of the other designer bags.. but I stopped using mine because I felt like it caved in on Remy. I also think the soft quilted pleather could show wear faster then some other materials used. That is just my opinion. I like the more ridgid or sturctured construction of the jaraden for that reason. I have sold a couple of the large get-a-ways for people who have 2 pups and needed the space. I will tell you they are nice looking bags...but they are BIG!!!! But if you need the space what choice ? |

Could you tell me how comfortable this bag is to carry? I'm do not like it when one strap falls off of the shoulder. Also, how tall was your little Chelsea? I'm thinking of both comfort for me the carrier and the carried :) |

I don't know how tall Chelsea was, I don't remember ever measuring her, but she was fairly proportional (maybe slightly longer than she was tall) and consistently weighed around 5lbs (5 1/2 lbs at her heaviest). She always layed down in the bag & stuck her nose up against a vent hole. Like I said, it's a great quality, leather bag and is the only one I ever used with her. If they made it in a larger size, I would order one in a heartbeat for ZoE. I can't speak to any other bag in the Cece Kent line, as the Nantucket is the only one I've had experience with, but I'd assume they are of the same or similiar quality. |
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Do you still have the bag? Could you tell me how big the ventilation holes are? The reason why I'm asking is because I get to have a leather bag made next week, don't have access to physical touch any of these bags and I need to make sure it's perfect! I'm also pressured by my dh to order a second bag for my dil! I'm projecting that the dogs may way 6 pounds as adults, even though it's possible they will only be 4.5 pounds. |
please bump |
I'd love to know how the length of the straps too and then I think I'll be set!!!! :D so excited! (ventilation holes, not the mesh part and straps) |

Well, I went to my purse maker this afternoon and am sooo excited! Monday, I'll actually place my order as we go over all of the details and possibly Wed or Thursday it'll be in hand! I'm still not sure about the strap sizes but I picked out my leather/color and some of the hardware already. The original doesn't have a deep separate leather pocket for personal items, treats or things, so we are putting in one or possibly two, we'll see. This is a fun project! Anyway, if someone who has one could mention how long the straps are it would help, or maybe we'll just fit it to our own bodies ;) This gives us something to go by. |
It's about an 11inch drop, but if your having it custom made, I'd have it made to whatever drop is most comfortable for you. The holes are about a 3/4inch grommet....I really like this feature, because even when the bag is completely closed up, your dog is still getting air. Personally, I'd like one large outside pocket added to the backside of the bag. And if I was having it made (and you're going by the nantucket's dimensions), I'd choose to make the bag a little wider, so you could put a few extra pockets inside and putting things in them wouldn't take up space from your pup. I'd really like if under the front flaps there was a pocket too (instead of just decorative flaps). Again, personally, I don't think you can have too many pockets...think of wallet, (ipad?), glasses, keys, potty pads, treats, water bottle, leash, small comb/brush (cos their hair tends to get wrecked being in a bag). Can't wait to see this creation...bet it will be amazing! |
Oh, and what color are you getting it made in? |
Thank you so much! I was guessing the holes were a tad bit smaller and afraid to go any larger without knowing. Very very helpful! I'm with you about the pockets and I'm wondering now if perhaps I should go with the newer cecekent design or just augment this one. My dil wants this style so bad and my favorite is the other but I was thinking it was too much hardware to try and copy. I do like the ideas of the front pockets. http://www.hautepup.com/CeCe-Kent-Ra...ier_p_214.html I'm going with a black croc embossed cow leather ;) I love leather purses and I'd like something durable, won't scratch like the soft leathers and hold it's shape better. Also, I love wearing black year round so it's very practical. |
Glad I found this thread. I was talking about getting a purse carrier for mine just yesterday! Post pics when you get it! |
