Harness Woes After trying several different harnesses & collars, we finally broke down and purchased a Buddy Belt (size 3). Got it on Monday, now it's chewed in half. :( Is there any harness like the Buddy Belt that is indestructible? I was so excited about the easy step-in harness that doesn't choke him when he pulls! HELP! |
I personally, love the Puppia step in harness! It is soft and some are adjustable; they are very secure w/smaller leg holes. I don't think it is "indestructible"! I keep mine in a drawer when not in use! :rolleyes: How did it get chewed in half? |

I put it on him last night before bed so that when I took him out this morning (5 am), I didn't have to mess with it. He chewed it off either late last night or before 5 am this morning. I've tried the mesh harnesses, but they come up too far on his neck & he chokes (he pulls when on a leash). |
I wouldn't leave a harness on a puppy or a dog for any length of time, and put it on only when going for a walk or ride in the car. |
I always take him out on leash in the morning, even though we have a fenced in yard, because it's DARK and I can't see him! We have a fenced yard, but we're on an acre and I want to be sure nothing will get him. |
I agree that a harness shouldn't be left on just like the collars shouldn't be left on. I would have suggested the puppia also, but you have already tried that. |
I'd find a step in harness with a closure that is easiest for you to use, either a buckle or a snap in type. Other members have tried leaving a harness on overnight and with Yorkies it just does not work out well. Plus there's the danger of them getting their jaw stuck in the harness, which could cause physical injury to them, even cause them to go into shock. |
I hope you find something that works for him, and update us! I too am suffering harness woes. I can't find one small enough, and he hates the ones that go over his head. I've been trying to get him used to wearing it by putting it on him at evening playtime. One he tries to chew and invariably gets his lower jaw stuck. The comfort mesh one is so big he can get one leg out of and then gets stuck. |
I sell the choke*free harness...they are really nice leather and have a patented design. you can google Choke*Free to see picts.. pm if you are interested. I do leave the harness on most of the time. If they fit correctly they shouldn't be able to chew them. My guys do sleep in the bed with us so I would notice excessive chewing etc.. and they are adults too. When Remy was little I used a puppia harness which I really liked. |
Oh my! Your little boy must be very flexible to have been able to chew the harness while wearing it. Little stinker. ;):) How old is he? |

We just got one of the Lil Pal harnesses for Pepper (  Amazon.com: Coastal Pet Li`l Pals Comfort Wrap... ) and he seems to like it - easy to adjust and once you snap it on he can't bite at it. We put it on him and I think he forgets it's even there, he doesn't even notice it. |
