retractable vs regular I have always used a retractable leash for Graysee since she was about 6 months old. I like to give her the freedom to roam, and have only had ONE mishap with an irresponsible dog owner who let his two big Labs run free around the neighborhood. One day, they into Graysee's leash when it was stretched to maximum length, and the impact yanked her up off her paws and flipped her onto her head! She yelped, but was OK! My neighbor was apologetic, but I let him know how I felt about his irresponsibility! Fortunately, he has since moved out of state! |
^ oh yeah, one time, my uncles German Shepherd got over excited and started running towards Jackson. She was still a pup (but a big pup!!) at about 6 months old... well she got herself all tangled up in the Retractable cord because, of course, Jackson was running circles trying to avoid her and then the leash got twisted around ME and the Shepherd flipped and started YELLING so loud. I was so worried she was really badly hurt. She limped for about an hour and then was fine. But ugh scary. They suck in situations such as this. Jax was also on one when a stupid neighbor's Lab in my dads neighborhood came charging us, luckily I locked it pretty quickly and was able to get it up in my arms, but it's so much harder to control when it comes to quick-thinking situations. You can't really swoop them up. |

I like retractable leashes. I use a smaller one for Khloe my yorkie puppy than I use of Kirby my bichon. It makes walking both girls easier. I can control either one by using the little black lever. Neither one can get too far if I don't want them to. I guess it personal preference. I started both of them off with a regular leash then switched to the retractable. |
I just can't handle the retractable leashes. Hubby uses the retractable one. I didn't know there was an all tape one though, that might be a possibility. I have a 32 year old square leather leash that's worn in just perfectly from my first little boy (Shih Tzu) back in 1980. It's 5 ft and we (Deuce and me) are comfortable with that length. I can control my little boy when I need to just by looping it in front of me. Believe me the leather is finally broken in perfectly. It also has some great old and new memories attached:) |
Yup poor Moki. 2 bees stings. Then take him for a walk today and a big Lab /Rotty mix comes running at him I yank him up. Good harness short leash it was quick. I head kick the dog as I pepper sprayed it. Dog ran away. Dog doesn't belong to anyone I know or I would be straight to there house. And I would explain the Leash laws. Why I like a short leash. Could have been an accident like dog escaped...but doesn't matter at the moment JME |
I despise retractable leashes. I suppose it's a personal preference. |
