KONG Squueaker Balls: too small? Greetings everyone! My furbabe loves squeaky toys & balls, so when I saw a trainer use the KONG Squeaker Balls as reward, I was glad to find out there's a toy that integrates both, so I jumped on my pc to find them, but can't decide on the size. My pup is a young 2.5yrs adult & weights almost 7 pounds. The description says: Xsmall is 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Small is 2 1/2 inches in diameter Anyone has them? What size did you get for your babies? Do they bounce? Should I get the extra small OR the small?? |
I have these and my dogs also love love love them!! To answer your ?, yes they do bounce. They are one of all of my dog's very favorite toys to play with. My babies are pretty small... almost three pounds and a little over four pounds... I love the kong squeaker balls because they tiniest ones are small and light enough for them to easily retrieve and play with. I also have a 7 pound maltese/poodle mix that I have here as a rescue I was unofficially fostering while trying to find him a perfect forever home. He's still with me because there were some issues where he was going, and I refuse to let him go to anything less than a perfect loving home for him. Anyway, he certainly can and does play with the smallest size, but bc of the smaller size, he can tear them up alot easier.... He seems to be able to pretty quickly both chew the smallest size and pop out the squeaker plug component, and I worried about the choking hazard of that if he was to swallow it ....So, I bought him his own set in the small. Really either one of them will probably be fine for you. Good luck!! Oh and BTW, They carry them at Target. |
My guys like the extra small. It fits their mouth better. |
I sell them in my boutique, but I haven't tried them with my boys yet. I agree that either size would be fun for your dog and the XS would probably be easier to carry in the mouth, even for my big boys. That is also good reason to always supervise your dog with them. Toys like these can get stuck in the mouth in rare situations and create a dangerous situation. |
My Golden Retriever, Buddy, 90 pounds likes the x- small best :) |
We've gotten both. As crazy as this may sound, Kaji prefers the ones that are the size of a normal tennis ball. you might want to try them both and see which one your pup likes better. Mine really doesn't care, as long as they squeak, bounce, and he can chase them. But, I have noticed the small last longer than the xs. He can break the xs the same day he gets them, and the small ones will last him a few weeks. These toys are not hard to find either. You can get them at any Petsmart, or Target. I like the Target ones better, because they come in different colors. :) |

The larger ones really do last well....but please beware. Over the last few months, Harry has found it very easy to get the squeaker out from inside, there's a thread on here somewhere about it, and I wrote to Kong to make them aware. Harry's really good - he gets the squeaker out then comes and presents it to me like a prize....just something to be aware of :) Sally x |
The xsmall are REALLY tiny. But would probably be good for little mouthes. We have a few of those here, and Jackson (16lbs) does like them but he punctures them very quickly, just by picking it up in his mouth. We do the small or regular sized here. Small is his favorite. |
The small are the best size for Toki (9.6 lbs) IMO...she loves the XS ones but I always end up throwing them under the couch, fridge, small spaces, etc, and get them stuck *sigh* Toki will play with anything she can manage to carry/drag with her mouth though. The XS ones are so small that Toki chews on them like a giant gumball which makes me nervous so she doesn't get to play with them. If I get balls that are too small, she chews on them like that. If I get balls that are too big, she attempts to defuzz the outside. I like the small in-between size best! |

We like the XS here. But the S will do also. I don't think they are too small. Mine are 5 and 6 lbs. So small but not tiny. I just wish they could make it where the fur would stick on better. Scraps is a destroyer of all toys, and especially loves scalping. |

bijoux1, see it's curious that my roomante's maltese puppy seems more excited about them than my yorkie. Well seems they like what they like and not what one wants them to like lol But it's the first time mine sees a tennis-type of ball so I'll keep trying & hopefully he will enjoy this as your furbabes do. Thanks :) |
KiminMD, You're absolutely right. I just found out my dog has a small mouth I guess ^^ thanks! |
I ordered the small and just received them today. My first impression of them is positive: the perfect size and seems fun, though my Kiko doesn't seem to think that... Whenhe heard the squeaker, he jumped on excitement, but that faded off when I tossed the ball. I think he doesn't realize que squeaking is coming from the ball lol. Will keep trying to get him to explore other toys besides his only time 2 favorites, a squeaking frog & tinycats midnight crazies balls. Maximo. aw, by the time i read the post i had already ordered them through amazon. I'll check your boutique :). MikaTallula, I have notive that too. my medioum-sized pup is more fond of smaller toys than median. Thanks! DvishAngel985, interesting that the small is sturdier than xmall. I'll test them with my pup's jaws ^^ Harrysmum, I think my Kiko hasnt realized yet they have a squeaker, but i know what you mean because he always seeks to break those in stuffed animals. Britster, i always have to load on replacements because mine punctures his squeaky toys always too. wonder if they do jit accidentally, out of anxiety, or the hunting instinct. tokipoki, aw, she must be a sweetheart. Capt_noonis, yeah, they look good size for most yorkies, especially sinze they seem to like smaller toys. I appreciate everyone's helpful inputs! |
