Need recommendation for a safe car seat Hello, I need help with a recommendation for a Safety Car Seat for my Yorkie in case of an accident! I have a travel crate (which way are you supposed to position the crate in the car forwards or sideways?) Do you put the shoulder harness around the crate for securing it? I am looking for the best rated Safety Protection in a Car for my yorkie. I need step by step help as I am slightly disabled. Thank you for your suggestions and help. |
There is a lot of debate on what is the safest way to secure your pup in the car. Car seats and crates keep your dog in one place and will protect your dog in a minor accident. The crate can go forward or sideways and you can use the seat belt to wrap around it and secure it in place. In a major car accident, a dog can be thrown around in a crate. I think of it like being in a falling elevator. Car seats tether the dog, but still allow movement. The safest way to travel would likely be a harness that is akin to a seatbelt for humans. Something like this: Dog Car Harness » Comfort Ride Travelin' Dog Car Harness | PetSmart |
Good morning! :) This is what we do.... We put Harry's Choke Free harness on, and then put him in his crate which is sideways-on. We then attach a lead-like thing to his harness, which we thread through the crate, and it slots into a seat-belt slot. We then put the shoulder strap all the way round the crate, and slot it into the other seat-belt slot. Does that make sense?!!? :D Sally + Harry x |
The other thing is the air bag, if you have dog in a harness in a seat then the airbag in a major accident will deploy, and without the exterior protection of a harness could cause a "crushing" type of injury. We do have a van and travel with the dogs in crates in back of car. I use a smallish crate for Razzle when travelling; he has room to turn around in it only. We use the shoulder seat belt, linked through the slot designed for it, and then it is buckled in just like you would for a human. The larger crates are bungee cord down. |
Morgan has a snoozer car seat. |
mine have the outward hound car seats...im not too thrilled with them though...planing on getting the fido rido car seat. |
I like the Snoozer car seats. The dogs like to see out the windows too but most of the time they go to sleep in their snoozers. |

Gracie Love, On the Argyle Carrier Keeper are these just straps you put around your Carrier. as I have a Petmate Kennel Cab. Also I can't put my carrier sideways. I have to put it face forward. Can you let me know if Argyle Carrier Keeper are just the straps and not the Carrier as their is really no measurements of carrier stated and if you can use them on a kennel going face forward and not sideways. Thank you for your help. |

Amazon.com: seatbelt extender Usually the back seatbelt in the middle adjusts somewhat but we needed to make it longer. |

Course he's still getting car sick on longer "around town" trips. We're working on this... |
