Help regarding flea medications. Hi I was checking out flea medications and there are really a lot to choose from. My problem is, they all don't seem safe and I know there are many that aren't. From personal experience, is there anyone who would be able to recommend something for fleas or know a good solution to rid of them that won't harm my baby? Thank you. |

I have posted this several times.....My Mom got this recipe from a holistic vet in our area....Unfortunately he is quite a ways from us .... 1 cup of water 15 drops ( I use like 30) peppermint oil (can buy at a natural food store) put this in a spray bottle... wet (REALLY wet) a paper towel wipe over the entire dog starting at the head, underside...etc..... it will NOT make them greasy...matter of fact..it makes their hair very soft and they smell good! This mixture helps to repel fleas AND ticks! The only draw back (because it is all natural) is it has to be applied every couple of days...matter of fact...I put it on every time I take them out.. We camp in the summer...we have never had fleas on the furbutts! good luck and let me know how this works for you! edited to say:.....this mixture does not separate like water and oil....it will mix together...I do shake it though before I spray it...and DON'T spray directly on your dog....OH! My Mom soaks her dogs harness in the mixture and lets it dry before putting it on her...I am going to try this too! |

To the OP: HUMAN GRADE DE is a natural flea/tick killer. It is also a natural internal pest control. The DE cuts the ecto skeleton of the pests, and dries them out. It MUST be HUMAN GRADE, however; NOT the kind one uses in a pool. I cannot do this, as my girls get near my daughter, who is multi-challenged, and I worry about the DE gettinig into her eyes. I encourage anyone to research the health benefits of HUMAN GRADE DE for both humans and animal. |
I have been using Flea Treats for 3-4 years and have not had any problems with ticks or fleas. It's all natural (basically brewers yeast and B vitamins) My girls think they really are treats and love them. I just can't put pesticides on my dogs... just too many side effects to worry about... the immediate ones and long range. The mixture in the post up above sounds great... I've heard of that before. |

We used human grade DE on Couver and Khloe when we had a flea outbreak. It works, but has to be reapplied everyday (at least in our case). |

I too, am a big fan of using pure organic essential oils as a repellant. Have been using a different formulation for myself (will never use deet or any synthetic chemical/poison/pesticide again) and the furbabies for some time now and it does work for us. The key is to make sure you are using true, pure certified essential oils and to dilute them properly in a carrier oil. If you do a search online you can find numerous recipes and info on making your own if you desire and the many many opinions related to their use. Always DILUTE pure essential oils. Here is a link for a natural alternative, for the yard and home and furbabies: (They sell sample sizes for trying it out) Natural Fleas | Tick Treatment | Flea Repellent |
Thanks MK. Was just coming back to ask about a yard treatment. |
fleas well I'm really upset because I had posted a very long post regarding the peppermint oil solution and when I was about to submit to the thread my post got deleted so here I go again long story short I showered her used dawn for her fleas and applied the peppermint solution so hopefully I will keep you posted on how it works. my hubby will be treating the yard this afternoon :animal36 wish me luck |
I like it =D Thank you Blowry for letting me know about this. I don't mind having to keep applying it, but it helps my baby relax. I don't find many fleas on her ( I am glad for that ) but I want her to enjoy everyday without itching. Thank you =D And sorry it took so long to give my input I just wonder what other natural remedies are out there to help in repelling the fleas ... |
OK, got these, and am on the 5th day of using 2Xday. Quote:
