Harness I'm looking for a harness that won't put pressure on my yorkie's throat. He has a Puppia brand mesh harness and it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on his throat causing him to cough and hack. He does have a collapsing trachea so I need something that will be comfortable when we go on short walks ( I normally end up carrying him most of the way). Yesterday I bought a new harness by Coastal/Comfort Wrap. It worked great and I thought that we may have found the perfect harness; however that was until we were near the end of our walk, Jack started to hack. I've also been looking at the jacket harnesses. Either way the hunt continues. Any suggestions? |
The step in harnesses work best. MY Zada has a collapsed trachea too and she has several from Chattismom and the Buddy Belt. Buddy Belts, Buddy Belt Harness - FunnyFur.com Step In Dog Harness, No Choke Dog Harness, Harnesses for Small Dogs |
The buddy belt is the only harness I have had that if Callie can pull and she doesn't cough and choke. I also suggest maybe getting some information on how to train a dog to walk on a leash because that would help too. |
Morgan also uses the buddy belt so easy to put on |

Thank you all for the recommendations! I actually sent Chattismom a message and it looks like I'll be getting one from her as soon as she's is back in business :-) Again thank you!!!! |
I've purchased just about every harness out there from the buddy belts, puppia and also so many decorative dress/vest harness made with the velcro. Chattiesmom's harness are the best hands down. Because they are adjustable, I can use them in the summer on Ava and in the winter I can adjust it to wear over her Tinkerbell's Closet joggers/hooddies or coats that do not have a D ring. I live in Manhattan so I don't trust the velcro harness. If anyone can find a material that is more comfortable/stylish and does'nt pull the hair better than the silk on Chattiesmom's harness. Please let me know. I think they are the BEST ! |
I have a black chattiesmom harness that is never used (used once, it's in perfect condition), I dunno if you'd be interested, but just thought I'd throw it out there. How big is Jack? |
Hello! Yes I agree, I've good things about the ones chatttiesmom makes! Jack is 7 pounds. May I ask why you never use it? I may be interested, how much would you be willing to sell it for? |
Apart from your earlier replies - we weighed up Buddy Belt v Choke Free - and ended up with the Choke Free. I like the very fat D ring going through the slit in the velcro - found it easier than the buckle with 'older' hands and a very slippery Harry!! ;) Sally + Harry x |

The velcro and D ring system is genius and suits our needs very well  |

What do the choke free harnesses look like? |

Basically, it looks the same as the Buddy Belt. Instead of it buckling on the back, it crosses over with velcro. There is a slit at the top, and the D ring goes through that slit so it's impossible for the harness to open. It's so simple, you can practically put it on with one hand. Once the leash is attached to the D ring - nothing and nobody can go anywhere!! ;) It comes in a wonderful array of colours too - it might be worth looking at the Choke Free website (they'll explain it much better than I can!) :D Sally + Harry x |

I have WAY too many harnesses, lol. More than I find myself needing or using. So that's why I never use it, lol. Quote:
I think I like the BB more to put over clothes and such, but the ChokeFree seems a bit less bulky and comfier. Here is a photo of Jackson in the ChokeFree for the one who asked (his hair was a bit funky in this pic, lol, don't mind- it was also a super hot day!) |
