Small coat for tiny puppy? Hello we are new here and posted our introduction in the general talk section. But I was wondering if anyone knew of a place I can get a small jacket for violet in the winter? She wont be comeing home for another couple wks but when she does i would like for her to have a warm jacket for the outisde potty time. Right now she is 7" long with a 3" neck and 4 1/w chest. Shes only 15.6 oz at 7 wks old. I have tryed my hand at sewing her a fleese jacket.....which fits her perfectly but doesnt look the greatest! (First time sewing anything for me). Thanks ahead of time for any input! :aimeeyork |
Etsy.com has a lot of hand made things. Some of the people will make things to fit according to your measurements. Try putting puppy coat in the search and see what shows up. |
- - click these two little lines, I don't know why but the link became 2 little lines..lol I don't know if you have these coats in a store near you, because you can't order them online. But they size their coats based on length and start at size 6 and go up by even numbers from there. The ones I linked for you are the ones made specifically for small dogs, but if you look around the site there are a few other designs as well that start at size 6. I have seen a size 6 in person and it is really small and would probably fit your baby well. Next time we go to the store that has the one I want (beet twill) we will be buying one for our baby. The sizing is fairly accurate. Our dog is 9 inches long and we are deciding between size 8 and 10....the 8 is a little short and the 10 is a little big. Sophie is full grown now though, so we don't need to take into consideration her going up a size. They are pretty expensive but they have a lifetime warranty and they are really nice quality. I don't live in the US but the retailer locator has postal or zip code. Other than that...I find the xs at Petsmart is sometimes really tiny and may fit your baby. When Sophie was first brought home we used doll clothes (normally the ones we used were from Micheals), socks cut up and made into a shirt and premie onesies (we just cut them to the proper length). We didn't spend a lot of money/effort in finding her clothes when we first got her because we knew she was going to grow and the tiny things wouldn't last forever. She is now 2 and a half years old and usually wears a small or extra small, depending on the brand - she was just a little bigger than your baby when she was 7 weeks. |
When my babies were very small I could find coats or sweaters at Walmart or Petsmart, since they outgrow them so fast I didn't want to invest a lot of money. |
2 Attachment(s) Thanks I will check that link out. I cant see spending alot of $ on something I know she will outgrow rather quickly but still would like her to have some clothes to wear to get used to them. The things I have made fit her but dont look the best which is ok for when she is home. I wont be worried about her tearing it up or staining them. But would like to have some nice things too for when we go out. Cant show off a beautiful baby in dingy clothes ;) Heres a pic of Violet and also a pic of her in the coat I made. <3 |
Aw she is so precious...I miss when Sophie was that tiny. I get what you mean about not wanting to spend a lot of money on something she will grow out of quickly...I just love the coats so I recommend them to anyone lol Seriously though...I loved using socks on Sophie. They look adorable and you can typically get them pretty cheap...so you aren't wasting money. I think thye have been mentioned on this site before, but here is a youtube video about it: We have never used the hat part of it because Sophie hates anything on her head. I am from Canada but from what I hear, Walmart and Target can have some pretty cheap some dog clothes as well. Walmart here sucks for dog clothes....the extra smalls are way too big. But Petsmart and Petco likely have some decent priced/sized shirts for her. |
Cute video! Gracie hates anything on her head, too. I am always looking for jackets and coats without hoods but it seems that most companies want to put hoods on the clothing. They are cute but Gracie wants nothing to do with that hood following her around. She barely tolerates a coat anyway even though she is very sensitive to the cold. Our Walmart has very little for dogs either. I have to order everything online and trying to figure out sizes online can be difficult. I think the sock thing would annoy Gracie. Just too snug for her. She has a long coat and needs clothing that we can tuck her fur into without making a huge mess of her fur. |
Sometimes when they are that little you have to make them a little sweater out of a wam sock because there just arent clothes for that small of a pup |
I actually have got clothes from Build A Bear! Very reasonable!! |
I am just wondering what is your dogs measurements... because I was thinking of getting Bailey Build A bear clothes: cheap and CUTE! |
I found a couple things at petsmart to fit my little midget. He was just about 2 pounds when I found him something that is snug enough. By the time you bring her home she just might fit into something. To go a little cheaper you can probably get something at Ross too. They have tiny stuff but not sure if you have a Ross there. (designer stuff at discount prices type of place) |
