Trupanion Insurance Review I would like to say how impressed I am with Trupanion insurance. Although expensive as I have zero deductible(which can be varied as wished), they have been great since my little one at age 2.5 yrs had cataracts. They pay 90% of covered costs, do not argue over claims, and process within a week. I have no financial or other interest in the company, but thought my experience might help those considering insurance. I got it when I adopted him at 1yr old thinking I would need it as he is a BIG JUMPER, and Yorkies are well known for (expensive) knee problems!!! I never thought the (also very expensive!) eye problem would happen with such a young dog. |
That's good to know. I've been thinking about getting health insurance for my baby. |
Thanks for sharing your review! |
insurance Thank you, you are most welcome. Like all insurance it seems expensive and useless until you need it!!! This cataract treatment sure is expensive and at least I do not have the additional worry about how I can pay for my little one's treatment. |
I also have Trupanion. I have had it for a year now.. I had to file my first claim in July... I had heard the first claim can take up to 2 weeks to process but I got it within a week once my vet faxed their side of the paper work in. Customer Service was very nice and helpful as well:) So far I have no complaints.. just keeping my fingers crossed my premium doesn't go up again next year.. |
I also have Trupanion!! Had to file 3 small claims back in May. They handled everything very quickly....answered all of my questinos, and I got checks after one week. Have had it for 1-year, this past July, and my premium did go up.....but it is still affordable and comparable to other companies I researched. I have zero deductible and it covers 90% reimbursement [excluding the office visit....] for all Illness and Injury..... I am Really Hoping I will Never have to use it!!!! |
Thanks for the info.! I have VPI for Ahi and we just sent in the first claim. We will see how it goes. I think it is great to have more info. on other plans incase we need to switch. |

I am with you on every word but just to let you know - I am in Canada and paying much more than you do in the US! so feel good about your premium! ;) |
Trupanion Hello; Glad to know you too are happy with TP also, but sorry you have to pay more! It is bad enough in the US and I would have thought US was more expensive than Canada. I have just claimed the BIG ONE fro the actual cataract surgery (around $3,000) and again the claims were approved in a week with no questions asked. Hope you never need to use the insurance for your baby, but it is sure worth it if you do! |
I know this is not a current post but I'm glad to hear your positive experiences with trupanion. I just signed up! |
Thank you so much for posting this. I just picked up a brochure for Trupanion today at the vets office and was hoping I could find some info here since I don't know anyone who uses it. I think we'll give it a try. |
Trupanion Good luck, hope your experiences are as good as mine. Never any problem with rebates for covered items. They even paid for a prescription food! I think they paid 50 percent. You can choose the level of insurance and thus your cost. Remember the deductible is per incident, not per year. That is why I got zero deductible, even though it was more expensive. Hope your little ones do not need to use it. |
