NuVet Plus Vitamins? HI everyone, newbie mom here! Just curious if anyone has experience with NuVet Plus Vitamins. They were recommended by my breeder, but I was not too impressed with their website. anyone tried them? or have a better and less expensive suggestion?? thanks!! Emily |
I use them and even though they are a bit pricey I think it is worth it if they do what they claim. My breeder also uses them and recomened them. I have 2 on diets, one with CHF and dementia, and one on K/d for the next 3wks. so I am hoping these supplements help their immune system. I have gone through my first order and am on the second. It doesn't take long to go through an order with 4 furbabies. But if they help them, then I am willing to pay for them to have a better supplement. |
What are you looking for the supplement to do? Kibble is already complete and balanced. Adding too many extra vitamins can even unbalance it and lead to problems. It is full of vitamins and minerals. There is no need to use any supplements in healthy dogs. Antioxidant supplementation is questionable at best. Pet foods contain some as it is. PetDiets I'd pick a good food and stick with it while forgoing extra supplements unless your vet says otherwise. A lot of times these things are nothing more than money transfer and a way to get your money for no good reason. |
I always thought the prescription dog food probably didn't have that much nutriction. I just wanted to make sure they were getting what they needed while on these foods. The k/d and OM are not going to be like a permanant thing thank goodness. I tried NuVet because like I said the breeder also suggested it and gives her little furbabies the samething. I wanted to thank you too, Ellie May, for the info on the food. I have always bought the best food for them regardless of price etc. My vet was telling me the same thing you were talking about with the SD. She said the bigger co. did more and better research. Bought some SD this weekend for Tina, which is the only one I have not on something special right now. I am also going to give Eukinuba another try. |

Breeders Recommendation Hi everyone, thanks for the responses. I was asking about the Vitamins because they were suggested by my breeder. I also noticed they were VERY expensive. I just wanted to make sure that I am spending my money on the right stuff and not on something that is not needed. I don't mind spending what is needed for the right stuff but I just want to make sure. I feed Digby Royal Canin Yorkie 29. Since we brought him home on Saturday he hasn't eaten much. I am monitoring him for hypoglycemia but he seems to be doing fine. He eats some kibble during the day but really not a lot at all. He's 12 weeks and he eats maybe 2-3 tablespoons of the kibble per day. I am just concerned about his getting enough nutrition. :) He sees the Vet tomorrow for his first visit, I will definitely ask!! |
My vet knows about NuVet because I told her and she really didn't say that much. Mine are on canned food right now and I am not giving them kibble because of what they are having to eat for awhile. I use the powder and its easier to mix in the food. Thats what I was concerned about if they were getting all they needed because of it being prescription diets. |

Rx diets generally do have plenty of nutrition (even if they contain ingredients that you aren't liking). Some are very low protein (like K/D) and don't meet the AAFCO maintenance level for that nutrient. That doesn't have t do with vitamins and minerals though. Also, there is a reason it is lower in protein and I see this supplements has amino acids. Amino acids make proteins, so I'd have to wonder if that is affecting the final protein count and type of what your K/D pup is supposed to be getting. In a dog with kidney or liver problems, this supplement may not be a good thing. It is not needed for any pup. Also, if there are calories in this supplement, that may need to be taken into consideration when there is a diet in progress. |
Well, after staying up last night and reading & reading I think I will stick to Welliness. They have always done fine on it and at least there is no by products in it. Eukanuba had by products and some other things I didn't like. As far as the vitamins, I sure don't want to do anything that would cause them a problem. Like I said, my breeder recommended them and the vet really didn't have much to say about it. SHe probably thought I shouldn't give them. I had given Dudley a liver treat we are thinking maybe caused the problem but far now I think I will far go the vitamins. Thanks Ellie May for all your help and info. |
