Buddy Belt Sizing I really need to get Romeo a step-in harness... the little man LOVES walks but he likes to pull around and i've just been walking him on his collar because I cannot find a harness small enough for him. I contacted chattiesmom to make one but she's busy right now so I need to get one somewhere else. My problem is that I don't know what size to get him because he exactly 2 pounds right now and his measurement behind his front legs is 8 and 1/2" Is the size 2 going to be too big for him? I don't really want to buy a size 1 if he cant fit into it for awhile. Or are there any other harness that would be better? Ooh and Romeo is 5 months old right now :) Ty Ty Ty! :) |
I would not walk your pup with a collar at all, especially because he is tiny and pulling. Yorkies are prone to collapsed trachea, a terrible and ultimately deadly condition. :( I have read that other people with tiny Yorkies have used either cat or ferret harnesses, both are inexpensive. It would be worth spending a few extra dollars at the pet store for one while you wait for your Buddy Belt to arrive. For sizing, I think I would order the size 2 for your pup. That way you will have room to put it over clothes or accommodate your pup's potential growth over the next few months. Let me see if I can find the name of the online store that many people here ordered from and had positive experiences, including exchanges. |
The store is called wetnoseboutique.com -- according to reviews here, they are great with returns or exchanges as necessary. My boys love the Buddy Belt, but here is another harness to consider: Ultra Easy ChokeFree & PawRider Pet Seatbelt Adapter (USA) No collars! :) |
All 6 of my babies have buddybelt harness' and I would suggest a size 2 if he is going to grow a bit more. The 1 is pretty teenie. Can you go to a pet store to do a proper measurement. Just a thought. |
I would never use a collar.... yorkies are susceptible to collapsed trachea. I got an xs harness from petsmart the day I brought Riley home. It is too small for him, now. Send me a PM with your address and I will mail it to ya!! :) |

That is over at Meridian Hill Park, across the street from my house. That was the first day I brought him home....July 23, last year... it was the First hottest day of the summer and they were working on the a/c in my place so I drove him over to Petsmart got him that harness and leash and then over to the park we went. I carried him Everywhere that day. When we got back home, I put him down.... and was doing something... and heard this lil' squeaky peep, behind me. I looked down and it was him. He was wanting me to pick him up and carry him around in my place!! LOL!!!! - That Is When The Spoiling Began!! =) |
1 Attachment(s) This is the harness I have for my 2, 9 mos olds....Harley was 12 weeks old and 2.2lbs when I got him, very thin...and this was the only harness I could find that fit him...XS and they are adjustable....he is still in it...I got the black for him and I've only had Ivy 5 weeks she is 5.4 lbs and it fits her and I still have some room to go...I got the pink one for her. I got them at Pet Smart. |
