Cloak and Dawggie harnesses Anyone ever tried these or heard of them? Cloak & Dawggie Cool Mesh Harness Vest - Red Camo at BaxterBoo I'm needing a better summer harness for Jackson. I love the Puppia but sometimes I feel like it's kind of hot for those really warm summer days. I also was reminded this weekend of how much sand gets stuck in the Puppia mesh when we go on the beach... it does eventually dry off but, just looking for a better summer harness. These Cloak & Dawggie ones look cute, I saw them on a Chihuahua forum, but my Jackson is 16lbs and the velcro makes me a bit nervous. He doesn't pull or anything... but it still makes me wonder how secure it would be. |

I've never tried a harness like that...but will be looking forward to hearing other replies...I always worried that it wouldn't "hold". I feel much better with an actual buckle or in the case of the step-ins...a double D ring to clip onto. Have you ever thought of just using a nylon step-in harness for the beach? It would be cool, I think, and not collect the sand...although I don't know how it would feel wet...? |

That's what I'm thinking... I'm going to have to just find a good fitting nylon harness for him. Thanks! |

I used one just like this on one of my moms toy poodles when she was a 4 pound, 3 month old puppy and she gently pulled ahead of me, not hard at all and she was out of it. I never trusted something held together by velcro again. |

I was going to say the same thing about the velcro. It just doesn't seem safe enough for me. I know others on the forum prefer fancier harnesses, but I think the nylon ones can be so practical. Levi has a million harnesses, and his favorite is still a plain old sturdy step-in nylon harness. It's cool in the summer and fits under jackets in the winter. |

I really did love it but it was just an odd fit. I tried the 5 and it was too small and the 6 just seemed too big... I dunno, I wish they had made in between sizes. And thanks guys... I think I'm just gonna try to find a good nylon harness tomorrow that will fit him well and work good for the summer. |

Rory has a camo Puppia that is a step-in that isn't mesh, but I don't know if sand would get caught in it still. Actually now that I think about it they have pink plaid and pink polk-a-dotted ones that aren't the mesh like the typical Puppia material either. They are all the step-in style with the buckle on the back and the two d-rings you hook together. Let me see if I can find a link. |

I would think a simple step in harness would be best- it covers very little so it isn't extra bulk in the summer heat and is very simple to wash off. Something along the lines of this: Majestic Pet Adjustable Nylon Step-In Dog Harness - Black 85101 I use the chattiesmom harnesses- they are very lightweight- and they clean off perfect when the kids get dirty outside in the summer. |

Here's one (though Rory's doesn't have the skull and crossbones on it): FiveStarFido - Combat Harness B These might be too frou-frou for the treat monster, but you get the idea: FiveStarFido - Skipper Harness B Just as an FYI, I find these run much smaller than the traditional type you pull over the head. Rory has a 16" chest and I get her a large, and Lane has a 15" chest, and I get her a medium, which is a little snug. I think the measurements listed must be the measurements of the harness NOT the measurement the dog should have. Actually, you can see the discrepency of the the sizes between the two different patterns, so maybe the top one has newer sizes and the bottom one is the sizing we have for ours. |

If you like the mesh, try Puppia or a puppia-type. I have ones like these in red with black nylon & plastic buckles, for all 3 of my pups. It has the metal D-ring on top and they work very well. One note thou -- after a day of swimming, it seemed to stretch out. Just had to cinch it up a bit but something to keep in mind. Here is the type I am talking about: |

I actually used a harness by this very brand and I loved it. my only problem with it was that after a year the velcro started to get weak and it would have to be washed to get a good hold again. I used it on Gatsby as a puppy and he was only about 4 pounds, I have no idea how it would work on a bigger dog. The harness was very cool in the hot weather and i felt safe leaving it on him if i needed to run to the store or someplace quick. I feel that it would be a good investment If you like it and it may last longer without a puppy pulling on it every time they put it on. |
