Motorcycle Pet Carrier Does anyone take their baby out on a motorcycle ride? Im trying to find a comfortable pet carrier backpack that hubby can wear so Lucy can betwen us. thanks Bee |
Can't recommend a specific product, but I'd look for something that's made specificaly for that purpose, at the very least something that has a restraint inside it to tether a harness to, even if he will be between the two of you (check your local Harley or other bike shop shop if you have one or their web site). I've seen alot of dogs go for motorcycle rides (bikes are VERY popular in my area) just remember it's important to have him wear safely eye wear just like it is for you and the hubby:) They make cute little doggie goggles for this;) |
Thank you Jenn, I been checking everywhere. doggie goggles are on my list too. i should get the goggles now so Lucy can get use to them.:gi88: |
We are all set for Memphis to ride with me this summer. I purchased the Kuryakyn Pet Palace which is a full, bike mountable carrier and it now doubles as his everyday carrier as well. I never looked for a backpack style but I would suggest checking T-Bags as they do make some motorcycle pet carrier products as well. We also have doggles for his eyes and you can buy helmets although he is so small I was worried if the helmet caught a gust of wind it could snap his neck. I would think, if your dog is going to ride between you on the bike a regular backpack dog carrier would work. That you could just google to find one you like. Good luck and keep the shiny side up! |
YW...make sure you post some pictures:D "doggles" so funny and cute, I love it:) |

I take Miki on the motorcycle with me in a pet carrier that is strapped onto my back seat. The one I have is from T-Bags and as someone already mentioned, Kuryakn also makes the Pet Palace. Originally, I had planned to carry her in a front pouch, much like the picture you showed. I tried it once with her helmet and doggles on, but rode on the back of my husbands bike with her. (The wind did pull at her helmet) I wanted to see how she would react before getting on my own bike with her. I decided after that ride, that it just didn't feel safe. I feel better with her in the pet carrier. God forbid, if there were an accident, I feel she is safer inside the carrier. If your bike has a tour pak, it could be strapped on there, as you are riding two up. Inside the carrier she is also protected from flying objects & bugs. The top and both sides can be unzipped but with mesh so she can see what's going on. If we get caught in rain, I just zip them up. Miki loves to ride with me (weather permitting). One other note.... make sure you carry water with you when traveling, as they get quite thirsty. |
My snoozer roll around turns into to a back pack. You can take the wheels off and it becomes a back pack, car seat or a pet bed. My two 4lb yorkies fit in it comfortably. You can view it at snoozerpetproducts.com. type in the search snoozer roll around and then click on view the detail. It zips close with plenty of venting. It is alo airline approved. I hope this helps. Linda, Sassy and Patti |
Please don't Please don't put your pet at risk. I once loved to go motorcycling. That is up until three years ago when my husband and I were almost killed. A truck pulled out in front of us. We had helmets. If Sydney were with us, she would have been killed instantly. Because of the accident, I lost my husband to a severe brain injury and my job. Sydney is the only thing I have to hold on to that's dear to me. I would hate to have lost her, too. Because of her, I know I have a future. Please think twice. I beg you. |

Sorry to hear about your accident and your husband but again, we all know the risks everytime we fire up the bike. |
We have been riding for almost 10 years and although we haven't ever taken our boys with us I have seen quite a few people riding with their dogs. The one that stands out the most was a guy going across the US with his dog in a side car! The dog had goggles and I think a little (fake I'm sure) helmet. It was very cute. I saw a guy riding with his dog perched on the tank...now that is an accident waiting to happen. Ride safe..... |

I meant no disrespect. We all love our Yorkies and I'm not debating that issue. The topic was on motorcycling pet carriers, and nothing is going to ever be comfortable or safe enough. Just an opinion from a person who had motorcycled for over a decade. Someone tried to warn me and I didn't listen. Not until it was too late. If you choose to motorcycle, that's up to you and I'm not debating it. But if you're in an accident on a motorcycle with your Yorkie, your pet will lose every time either emotionally, or physically, or both. If you ride with your pet between you and your husband and you hit something, your pet will be crushed. You can't stop it from happening no matter what you think you could do. We were going 55 down the highway and suddenly stopped without warning. With my bleeding pelvis and the multiple contusions between my husband and I (among many other things), what do you think would have happened to a six-pound Yorkie? All I'm asking is for you to please think about it. I'm not angry at anyone. Just wanting to add a side to the topic. |
I've ridden Harley's since the mid 70's and used to take my first Yorkie with me when I rode behind my husband. I would tuck in my shirt and then button her up inside it with her head sticking out the top. She loved it. That was when I was young and foolish. Since then I have seen many dogs on motorcycles and they make lots of carriers for that purpose. Just look around and you will see then at rallies. You won't notice them if you aren't looking for them because many look like regular motorcycle bags. I think the safest way is with a sidecar. I have rheumatoid arthritis and am going to put a sidecar on my Electra Glide. I had friends that carried their two schipperke's(?) every where with them in their sidecar. They hooked them in on their harnesses, put their beds, food and water on the floor, and off they went. That's the way I want to take mine with me. It's not perfectly safe but it's not perfectly safe to take them in a car or truck either. I do think they will be happy and comfortable that way. |
