I've been trying to find the "perfect" fashionable dog carrier for my new Yorkie. I won't be picking up Little Dude for another couple of weeks but I want to be ready!;) I would LOVE a Kwigy Bo "Alex", but I think I might want to start with a more affordable carrier. I've been looking at a few designs from Zack and Zoey, but I'm hoping someone can answer some of my questions.

* First of all, my puppy is going to be small, of course. Is it too soon to buy a carrier like this for him? I want him to get used to the carrier, but I'm not sure how big he's going to eventually be? Dam and Sire were around 4-6 lbs. (This is another reason I don't want to get the Kwigy Bo at this time).

* I really like this one, <font...
but the smallest size they have available will fit a dog up to 15 lbs. I think this would be way too big, but I love the exterior pocket features.

* This one is also really nice, and I think would be a better fit, at least during the puppy stages. <font...The "Teacup" size supposedly fits dogs up to 4lbs. But it doesn't appear to have any pockets- does anyone have this model and can advise me?

* Should I just wait til puppy is bigger (like my husband suggests :rolleyes:), or should I get a way-too-big carrier, or does anyone have any suggestions on carriers that fit well AND have exterior pockets? And if I wait (because patience is a virtue) what's the best/safest way to get Little Dude to the vet for his 1st health check? Thanks everyone!!

I have the kwigy bo alex :) I wish I had bit the bullet & spent the money on it from day one, because it would have been so much cheaper in the long run.

Now I have one, I use it almost daily. Last night I took ZoE to the movies in it, and today she went out to lunch with me in it. I love that it is so discrete that I can take her just about anywhere.

You can either buy a small carrier now and upgrade later or buy the larger carrier and stick a big blanket in the bottom to take up most of the space while the puppy is small. You don't want the baby to being swimming in the bag or they likely won't feel safe and the carrier will be a "bad" place.

Personally I would start out with a cheap carrier- mine DESTROYED their carriers when they were babies because they chewed constantly in there. I would have been really upset had that been my kwigy bo.

I got Troy a carrier that when he was about 7 months old. I had an idea about what size he would be and I didn't like taking him places when he was smaller because I feared he'd get sick. I just didn't stray too far away from home.

That's a good point. I've been struggling on what type of carrier to buy as well. I know Kody is still growing and I didn't want to invest in an expensive one right now. Ebay has great deals on cheap ones - that still look great.

Also it never crossed my mind, that he may chew it up! I would not be been happy after spending $100+.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I spent yesterday morning exploring all the carrier options locally (not that many! ;)) and wound up buying one from Target, of all places, for $20! It's not too big, and seems to be fairly well made. I figure this can get me through the first year (good point re: chewing), and then once I have a better idea of his eventual size I can always upgrade to a nicer/more expensive bag. My husband was glad I went the cheaper route, but I told him this was just a temporary solution! Oh, and I also went to Hobby Lobby to get fabric for a matching blanket and "pillowcases" for the carrier's padded bottom. :D

I love my KB bag... the small fits up to 10 lbs (I think) my girl is 4.5 lbs and she has plenty of room.

You will love the KB Bag.. if you search you will see several post for KB bags (I am on a few:D) and the yt vender is RDB911 -- Ryan. Ryan has good prices and is very helpful. I would get the bag of your dreams because I boutht several and wasted money!!!!

Wow, so many good positive comments about the Kwigybo!! My friend has one for her Maltese and she swears by it.

Has anyone heard anything about BK Atelier? They make some nice looking carriers but I'm not sure about how they hold up.

If so, how do you like it? I've been eye-balling this one for Whit to use until she is full-grown, then I plan to invest in a better one. A local dog boutique has a gorgeous reddish-brown patent Zack and Zoe that I'm in love with, but it's $60 and only up to 4lbs. Not sure if she wont be a bit bigger than that or not.

Lil Sis and I have the same KB carrier. I love it and surprisingly so does Rosie. We both got it from Ryan. After looking at a few others I am glad I made the investment.
