Good Harness
 
Can anyone reccommed a good Harness? Bitsy choked herself the other night when I took her out, I think she may have hurt herself a bit, she was coughing for a bit when I brought her in.

You need something that doesn't touch the neck AT ALL- many harnesses are still too close to the neck- like the puppia style ones.

I think the best ones are the ones chattiesmom makes- they are step in style, not near the neck at all and super comfortable and safe.

You can also check out the buddy belt.

I know...I have the same problem finding one. I'll have to check out Chattiesmom harnesses.

I only use step in harness because they are the only ones that don't go near the throat.

I disagree with you. The puppia ones are safe if adjusted correctly and the correct size. I personally think they're ugly, but they're similar to the ones I use for Kaji on my vet's insistence. Turns out the thin harnesses were the cause of his recent acne.(who knew?) I also think the thicker ones (that almost look like a little vest) disperse the energy of a pull/tug better and they chafe less. I personally like the thin ones better since they fit under his clothes without being big, bulky, and ugly, but I think the other ones are safer. But I also think each harness has it's own set of problems. I haven't found a perfect harness yet.

Actually, I use that one and I do not like it at all :( It takes forever to put on and it makes their fur matt quicker. :( I wish there were a "perfect harness"

I didn't say they were not safe- but if they OP is having a problem with their dog getting choked by a harness then they need one that doesn't touch the neck and the puppia style ones do still go near the neck. I have used them before and don't mind them but if a dog pulls they are going to have pressure on their neck. Whereas with a step in they will not.

Here is one of her newer posts on the harnesses- send her a PM to order or with questions- however, someone recently posted that she was without a computer for right now, so be patient if you don't hear back from her right away!

I would definitely check out Chattiesmom's harnesses. Sophie has one that we love. It doesn't choke her, it has a very safe and durable snap closure and is very stylish! You can get matching leashes in a perfect length,too.:thumbup::thumbup:
