Best Harness for a Tiny Puppy? Hi all! I am getting an 8 week old little boy in 2 weeks and I wanted to make sure everything was in order before he got here (I have been scouring these forums for days trying to soak up all the info ;) I was wondering what would be the most appropriate harness for me to get him? At Petsmart, the guy said I should probably get him a cat harness for a while, but I wanted to make sure w/ the right people. Thanks so much, and I'll be putting up pictures when I get him! You all are so funny and cute w/ ur pampered kids :) Dan |
hi and welcome to yorkie talk,,, glad you joined, im gina. about the harness question, i would get the step in harness, its so easy to put on and take off. just my opinion... |
I like step ins too, as far as regular harnesses go. You can also easily put a step-in harness over a sweater of coat if its cold outside, so that makes it more practical. |

I got the step-in harness from PetEdge.com. Got the smallest size and it's adjustable enough to fit Tatum. I don't think I found that one until she was a few months old and she weighed around 2 pounds. I do like the step-in MUCH better though. I am getting my baby in a couple of weeks also (Nov 12th). The breeder told me to do the same thing is get a cat harness. When I went to Petsmart they start out smaller then the dog harnesses. I bought the cat harness and the dog one just to be safe. Congrats on getting your new baby! Ladyt & Kiki :aimeeyork |
I ordered a ferret size step in Harness for Cali as she was only 1 lb when I got her. I would send it to you but it's pink! The cat and small harnesses did not fit her at first. The ferret one was perfect but she out grew it pretty quick I now have her in a small dog step in harness. |
I got this harness in black for Simba and I love it. The material is soft and suede-like. It comes with a matching leash and is really pretty and comfortable. http://imapreciouspup.com/catalog/in...roducts_id=558 |
http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1131045227618 I got this one for Shelby and it's perfect. It's a step in harness, made for tiny dogs up to 10 lbs. (Shelby was a little under 2lbs. with a tiny bone structure) The girth size 8" is as small as any of the cat harnesses I found. |
Thanks everyone! I am going to go to petsmart and see if I can find anything with a girth size less than that 8" petite one. I might even buy that one too just in case. Better safe than having Yoshi bounding off into the great beyond. ps- Thanks patti, but you're right, I can't put anything pink on him. That would be cruel |
This is the harness I use for Bella: http://www.goobyfashion.com/h_flexharness.html I love it and it gives me peace of mind to know she's safe and comfortable in it! |
I still think some of the step in harnes still chokes that is if you pull hard. That is why we carry the ones that around from the front hind. Sometime like this won't choke http://www.barkatme.com/shop/item.asp?CatID=&Sku=840 or http://www.barkatme.com/shop/item.asp?CatID=69&Sku=1174 |
thanks! i'll look into those too. though we will not be going the pink angel wings route. as a man with a boy puppy, me and yoshi have to keep the testosterone level at a certain threshold :) |
