Any Concern that Many Detanglers have Formaldehyde? I purchased 2 detanglers that are mentioned often on yorkietalk. One did not have inglredients listed so I contacted the manufacturer and they sent them to me. I looked up each ingredient on the internet and both have ingredients that have different names, but when you look them up it is formaldehyde. I am concerned about using these, but am I over-reacting? In the past, I had only used Pantene and have never looked up the ingredients in Pantene, but I should probably do it. |
What are the products, I'm surprised the contents aren't listed on the label. Formaldehyde is used as a preservative in some products and this site says: Quote:

I misstated. They contain a formaldahyde "releaser". Ice on Ice does not have the ingredients on the bottle, but when I contacted them, they sent the info immediately and I really appreciated that. The other is EQyss Avocado Mist. Both list DMDM Hydantoin as an ingredient. Wiki shows the following, so I am trying to find out if I should be concerned. DMDM hydantoin is an antimicrobial formaldehyde releaser preservative with the trade name Glydant. DMDM hydantoin is an organic compound belonging to a class of compounds known as hydantoins. It is used in the cosmetics industry and found in products like shampoos, hair conditioners, hair gels and skin care products.[1][2] DMDM hydantoin works as a preservative because the released formaldehyde makes the environment less favorable to the microorganisms. |
PS - You mention ...when you used a detangler on Joey... Did you stop using one? I just started since she really mats with a harness and with clothes. We have lots of tile in our house and she likes to wear sweatshirts in the winter so I thought I would try a detangler to see if that helps. |
I use Cowboy Magic too!! Does it have formaldehyde??? |

Personally the fact that the product was a formaldehyde "releaser" wouldn't bother me, it would be such a negligible amount. Without preservatives, most body products would spoil due to bacterial and fungal growth, especially creams and lotions, and this could cause severe reactions. |
Interesting info. I have the EQyss Avocado Mist. It did not help us with detangling, but it does well as a brushing mist. I like that it does not contain silicone, but it does seem to attract dirt that leads to more tangles. |
