Are dog crates and carriers one in the same? Hi all:) As a future furbabby owner, I need a question answered! When you guys mention crates in your posts, do you mean something like this? : Midwest Life Stages Training and Travel Crates - 1600 Series - Crates - Crates & Kennels - PetSmart or this (a carrier)?: Pet Taxi, Designer, Small - small : Target or are crates and carriers basically the same thing (I know, i know they look similar!).. do you just you use the one word to describe them and not the other? Thanks in advance for any response! :) Amy:animal-pa |
I was confused at the beginning too. The first one I would call a crate, the second one a pet carrier. However, when Merlin was very young I would have him in the pet carrier but since he has grown I keep him in the crate at night. The crates usually come with a divider so you can minimize the space if you need to. We also thought it was a good idea to have him in the pet carrier first to get him used to it when we take him somewhere. Hope this helps. |
I would say the first is a crate, second is a carrier. However some people/sites will call both crates (wire vs plastic). I prefer the wire ones if you're going to be using it in the house for crate training and as a safe spot/den. Dogs can see out of them better and they get more ventilation. They're harder to move around but my girl loves hers. If you're simply looking for something to take her to and from the vet (or someplace else) then I would get the plastic one. |
Here is where they call the small plastic one a crate as well.....Kennel Cab Fashion Intermediate Olive (24.1" x 16.7" x 14.5") The carrier is different....dog carriers - Google Product Search |
I refer to it as a "crate" on this forum but really Raley is kennel trained...his kennel is the same as a pet taxi. He sleeps in it at night and rides in it anytime he is in the car. In fact, he will cry if he is not "kenneled up" while in the car! |
