$ticker $hock Wow - took the kids to the vet yesterday to get flea/tick and heartworm meds. After getting home and going over the bill I noticed that the flea & tick med (Frontline Plus - up to 22 pounds - 3 count) was $53.37 a box - and I got 2!!! wth? I looked Frontline Plus up on a couple of sites and found one that said I didn't need a prescription but others said yes. Most of the places were selling the exact same stuff for about $35 Where do you all buy yours? And how much do you pay? And do you have to have a Vet's prescription? I'm just blown away. We don't have to use the heartworm or flea/tick meds out here so it's been over 13 yrs since I've had to get this stuff. I just can't believe how expensive it is. btw - reason I didn't notice the price @ the vets was because I had Mia's routine office visit, her rabies shot, her fecal exam, both kids heartworm test, 2 boxes Iverhart Plus, and 2 boxes Frontline Plus... total $360.00 Yea - they ain't cheap! lol! :D |
I buy a years worth of Heart Guard Plus from the vet, and I know I pay more than if I were to buy them over the Internet. I do a lot of phone visits with my vet that he never charges for, so I don't mind giving him a few extra dollars. I only have Joey, so it's not big deal, but if I had more than one dog, I'd look for better prices. Some places will call your vet for a prescription, just make sure it's a U.S. company, and not a counterfeit product from another country. The reason some companies will sell you without a prescription is that they say they have a vet online, but a real vet would insist that a heartworm test be given first. I wouldn't buy from company that would do it without a prescription; you just don't know the safety of the product. Lots of counterfeit products out there. |
I get all my flea meds and supplements from Entirely Pets. EntirelyPets Discount Pet meds Pet Supplies & Flea Medicine If your vet really marks up heartworm medication, you can ask if he matches online prices. If not, have him fax a prescription to Entirely Pets, Drs. Foster & Smith or another reputable online pharmacy. |

I haven't had to call them since Mia was little but I do take both of mine in regularly and spare no expense - we were also buying food there - but I'm a little upset about this pricing - it's like a 40% mark-up above the internet price. Gez, I'd really hate to see what they pay for it... probably $2.00 ;) |
I paid $29.00 for the Iverheart - 6 month supply (came with a $3 off coupon - so $26.00) and my Frontline Plus was 99.90 for 6 viles and I got a free one...woohoo! I bought the heartworm and flea meds when I had Bridget spayed so I guess I didn't realize. By the time I was done with the spay and the meds she was my $100.00 a pound baby! Bridget has LP and the vet wants her on Chondro Flex II. They sell it for $81.00 for 180 tablets. EntirelyPets has 250 tablets for $73.00. They tell me they know their meds are more but are guaranteed!!???? And the Chondro Flex II she's only suppose to take 1/4 tablet a day. The bottle will last 720 days....it will be outdated before it's gone! Everyone told me I'd love a Yorkie....no one told me they'd be cheap! |

I guess from now on I'm going to have to question the cost of everything they try to sell me. I don't like doing that because I do support their business but I'd rather pay for the service they provide not the merchandise. :) |

Yes, I know with the heartworm they need to be tested prior to even getting the meds - I'm ok with that  and we had that done for both. Yes Frontline is only for flea/ticks but I thought that I did see one place ask for a prescription - could be wrong tho. You know I was just thinking... one box is for 3 treatments - once a month, right? Do I need to give this to them for more than a month if we're only going to be out of town for 10 days? Wouldn't one month's worth be ok? (Unlike the heartworm which they need to do for a couple of months afterwards) Maybe I'll just take one box back and remember next time to buy it online - ahead of time. |

We're leaving in the beginning of Aug and I wanted to put it on them the week before so that I can make sure they don't have any kind of reaction to it. I don't want to be on the road and and have something happen. |

Wow, I will definitely be ordering my Frontline from Entirelypets.com from now on! |

Also, do you think I need to put this on them for more than a month? |
I use Petcare rx.com for my advantix and have been happy with them. They send me coupons all the time. |
I don't want to even think about how much I pay for a years worth of heartworn and flee and tick meds for 4 dogs (advantix and interceptor). I'll never be able to retire! |

CJ - I just wanted to reinforce what others are saying here - I love EntirelyPets :)! They are fast and have nice prices. Also, once they made a little mistake on my order so I called them - and their customer service is top-notch...which is really nice to know. I get "free shipping" codes from them all the time, so that's a bonus as well. |

Thanks for all the suggestions on where to buy from. I will look into Entirely Pets - I think I have ordered from them before. Every little bit helps - especially when you have multiple dogs. :p jacquelinebabco - I know what you mean about not being able to retire... that's why I giggle when I see these kids wanting Yorkies - not that all breeds don't need the vet care and grooming etc. but I think Yorkies, Maltese and Biewers tend to be a tad more expensive and I'm not talking clothes! :D BonBon - good... if I only need one tube per dog then I can take back one box. That's $53 I can use on Max - he has to go in for his teeth cleaning & shots when we get back. |
