Tick Collar Advice?? Hi all! I haven't been on here in a while, but I come to you all because I know you guys are the experts! So here's my issue..I am traveling to Lake Placid, NY for a week at the end of July and I am wondering if I should have my pups wear tick collars (and if the collars even work) for the week? I do use Advantage Multi on both dogs, which prevents fleas and heart worm. But, I heard the ticks in area are rampant and I am worried since the Advantage Multi does not repel ticks. Any advice or suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance :animal-pa |
I am not sure about tick collars. I have never used one on Rosie. She has such sensitive skin I would be afraid too. Just because it would be in the same spot all the time. I use Advantix which I believe is from the same company as Advantage. Advantix does cover fleas and ticks and does a great job. Maybe someone here can give you advice on the tick collar. Or maybe call your vet and ask? Sorry I can't be of more help. |
Flea and tick collars are made by companies like Hartz and Biospot. Both companies have a long history of complaints of sick and dead animals. I wouldn't trust their products. Besides, if you were already using a topical, you would be double dosing them with pesticides. I'd use Advantix instead of the Multi this month. My vet will sell individual vials so you don't have to buy a whole package. |
I think you're right that Advantix is the way to go topically. What about for the heartworm prevention? |
I use Sentinel on Rosie. It is for heartworms and other intestinal worms but also works on flea population control. It is kinda expensive in my opinion but seems to work. There are other heartworm products that are not as expensive. |
