Coupler or 2 leashes?? Sophie is growing fast and become independent very quickly. When I walk my 3 pups, my 6 yr old Billie is off leash (she stays right by my side, always), my one year old Ralphie is on a harness & extendable leash, and 3.5 month old Sophie is off leash. Sophie was staying right with us as she is just a baby and everything is new, now thats she has gotten more confident, she is exploring, ignoring me when I call her, and running farther away from me when we are walking. Can mulitple-pup owners please let me know what you use and how successful and comfortable you find it? I am asking about having both pups on one leash with a coupler, having both pups on individual extendable leashes, or having each pup on a short leash, I don't know, just looking for advice before I put Sophie on lead. Just as an FYI, we live right across from a wide trail that goes through a small forest...we dont run into wildlife often (bunnies and deer, and they stay far away from us) and people very infrequently. Thanks!! |
I use a coupler, and the other on a independent leash, but I'm thinking of get a triple leash:rolleyes:, but to be honest, I use the stroller a lot, and keep one at the time that hubby's walk (they take turns) because I feel scare if a big mean dog coming after her, is easy to pick one up than three and protect them from harm. But yeah so far the coupler and a independent leash, has work for us:thumbup: |
i use two leashes only because my dogs for the most part walk straight and don't get tangled in the leashes. if your dogs are roaming, sniffing, playing, etc i'd probably go for the coupler just so you don't have to constantly untangle the leashes. |
my 2nd baby isnt ready to really walk on leash yet but i tell you when i do walk them both im getting a coupler i tried to walk them today and if they wernt wrapped around me a felt like they were gonna split me in half what a sight i must have been my arms streched as far as they can go they both wanna go opp directions |
My two older ones weights are pretty similar and they walk together on a coupler! It is fantastic and then Prince walk on his own separate lead. You figure it out. I just hated having all those leads and the coupler makes it much more simple. |
I find it easier to use two leashes but thats just me, I know a lot of people prefer a coupler. Armani tends to chew his leash while it is on which has led to scary moments so we use a chain leash that he cant chew. Then Chloe has a Laughing My Tail Off Leash which I love. I usually walk one on the right and one on the left. |
I walk my dogs with a coupler and when we arrive at the park I change to strollers When I use two leashes I keep one on my left and the other on my right side so I have better control of them Maria |
I'd never heard of a luaghing my tail off leash, I goggled it, they look fantastic! thanks everyone for the advice :) |

I contacted the company and they will embroider the handles for you if you ask and they also had colors that were not on their site. I ended up getting two pink embroidered with black and one leopard embroidered with hot pink. They are all very nice and the company was wonderful to work with. |
I bought a coupler last week, but have yet to use it as I absolutely hate the harness I bought for Mya and need to take it back and find a better one. I also need to figure out how the coupler works, lol. Do they have to be about the same size to comfortably use it? They are pretty close now, but I think Mya is going to be taller than Oliver from the looks of it. Never thought about 2 leashes tangling, that would so happen with my two.. glad I got the coupler.. lol.. can't wait to try it! |
I walk the dogs here everyday, my dogs and my fosters, we don't use a coupler, even though we have one. I can walk four of them at a time and am thinking about adding a fifth one to our walks. I tried the coupler and found it's just easier to walk them without one. I hold the four leash handles in my right hand, leashes extended in front of my body to my left side - the dogs are ALWAYS walked on my left side.....two in front, two in the rear....works for us:) |
i use 2 leashes of different lengths - one 4 ft and one 6 ft. the dog that is very well trained get the longer leash and the one that needs more control walks on the shorter one. we still get tangled up at times, but it's my method |
Oooh I actually never heard of a coupler and after reading this I got one. Cool! I can't wait to use it. I tried it for a lil after getting out of the store. It was sooo funny. They were walking forward but both tugging in separate directions. No gettin tangled in the cord tho. Which was nice. |
