Question for fellow Buddy Belt users I got Uni a used BB w/ matching leash (which I don't use the leash) from ebay for $28. I wonder if it was a bit stretched out when I got it. The seller was getting a size 4 bc her dog was too big for the size 3 (the one I bought). Uni is 5.5 lbs and 12" around. The BB site says she is a size 3 although she is on the smallest hole, which leads me to think it is stretched out. Also the part that goes under the armpit seems to twist a bit outwards, and I've noticed some red in her armpits. Bf says it's too tight (it's not too tight) but anyway I have loosened it one hole. Who uses a size 3 and what hole do you have it on? Have you noticed them stretch out since you got them? Was it a bad idea for me to buy a used one, since it's most likely conformed to the other dog and not Uni? |
Sydney uses a size 3 BB. She's on the second to the smallest hole. My mom and dad's Yorkie has the same BB size and uses the same hole. My mom had it looser and had Ginger running around the house to try it out. Sure enough, she got it caught on something and wiggled out. I know what you mean about under the armpits. It does bow a bit, but it does the trick. Sydney is just over 5 lbs and she started on the smallest hole when I first got it. Because it's leather, there is some give. Perhaps it did stretch, but if she can wear it without wiggling out then you're safe. And $28 for a used BB and leash is a good deal. I would have bought it, too. I paid a little over $40 with shipping for Sydney's. There is another kind of harness that's made of material, but she slides right out of that one. I hope this helps. |
The BB definitely conformed to the other dog, and yes, they do stretch. I started with a size 3 on Max and later moved him up to the size 4 when his hair grew longer. Now Teddy wears the old 3 and I have some of the same problems of twisting at the armpits. I really need to buy him a new one to have it mold to his body shape. Teddy wears his on the 3rd hole in from the end of the belt. I would take Uni to Muttropolis and try on a new 3. She might be like Max and on the cusp between sizes -- Uni between 2 and 3. |
I had a similar problem. According to the size chart Mitzy should need a size 4 but when I put the belt on her it was on the very last hole. So I ordered her a 3.5 and now is on the 3rd hole and fits SO much better. I did keep the size 4 for the winter I can wear it over clothing. |

The other thing I don't like is that the size 4 belt leather isn't quite as soft as the size 3. It is taking much longer to break in. |
Uni between sizes, the story of my life:rolleyes: But I am NOT about to buy her a brand new BB for full price in the same size. Boo! Oh well. :( there's always the walmart one I have. |

You never did say -- did you get the orange BB? I forgot to indicate above that a little redness in the armpits is normal when first using the BB. As long as the skin isn't raw, it's fine. The BB should fit snugly against the body without constricting the chest. I was like your bf and worried I had it too tight at first. If the BB is too loose, it will rub and irritate more. I also have to make sure hair is arranged properly, otherwise the BB will rub and snarl the hair. |

I got the dark metallic purple. Not orange,, but I love purple too. when I put on the BB I always make sure the "arm feathers" are laying nice and flat. I think i got that term from you, right? Arm feather, love that. :) |

I looked on ebay and I saw them. I think it will be the same problem. XXS fit's up to 12" and XS is 12-14". Uni is EXACTLY 12" so the XXS she would be on the last hole, and the XS she would be on the smallest hole. :( Oh well. i didn't care for those colors anyway. did you get yours already? or still waiting for them? Let me know how you like them anyways. |

Ok cool, thanks! :) |
I have these for my girls, but only let them wear them in the winter or on cooler summer nights, and only over a sweater or tee because they tend to rub the pits and cause mats. |
2 Attachment(s) Hey girl I have the BB, I got them new, so I think that they do mold to the dog shape, some harness cause more matting than others, but with Phoebe (cotton coat) she mat with all of them, I cut the hair of her arm pit short and that help a lot. I recommend that you get this: Buddy Belt Dog Harness Liner Accessories I had some left over materials from a suede, soft coat/vest that I made for the girls and wrapped (sew by hand) around the harness, I got the material at waltmart, you can get any other material that is soft and comfy;) I took some pictures of the harness for you, so you know what I'm talking about:p PS: The back of the material is suede, but don't remember the name of the actual fabric, maybe someone else will, is not that rough sherpa is very soft, I like it because is tick than the liner, sorry is kind of dirty too, we use a lot. |
2 Attachment(s) Forgot to mention that, we use the BB with and with out clothes, so even with the liner you still can use it on top of the clothes;), the BB does stretch a little, and get softer. But I decided to put the liners, just to make it extra comfy for them lol;) because as new is kind rough.jmo |
