Playpen Hi! I'm getting my baby girl in 2 weeks!! I have everything ready to go, except for a playpen. I found one on ebay that I like, but I was curious if anyone knows of a good internet site to buy puppy playpens?? The one I'm looking at is soft, has mesh windows and has zebra print at the top. Does anyone know anywhere else to buy one like that???:) |
Hello and Welcome to YT! It is great to have you here. I know that some members here have found great deals on play pens on ebay. |
Soft sided playpens are great for older dogs, but not appropriate for puppies who will chew right through them. An Xpen is a much better purchase. I happen to love the ones from Seabreeze. SeaBreeze Petite Pens - A lightweight solution to heavy exercise pens |
I used a regular baby play pen for my yorkie girl and it worked perfectly. |

I have to agree with Ladymom. I would avoid putting a puppy in a mesh playpen until the puppy is older or can be supervised the entire because most puppies are chewers. I think the seabreeze pens are great. I would get one that is at least 24 inches high. I also have a mesh pen from Ebay which may be similar to what your looking at: Zebra Pet Dog Cat Tent Puppy Playpen Exercise Pen L - eBay (item 280498315092 end time Apr-28-10 15:33:06 PDT) Its been great for travel but I don't use it too much at home because I worry my pups will chew right threw it when I'm not looking :) |
I used a baby playpen with the mesh sides for all 3 of mine when they were babies. Had no problems with chewing the mesh. The only thing with that is both Maddie and Libby eventually figured out how to climb the mesh and escape the playpen. |

What about the excercise pens that look like real baby play pens? |
I have a "Pack n Play" that I bought for my Pomeranian puppy and then found a XT Play yard on Craigslist that was given to me "FREE". My Pomeranian finally figured out a way to climb out of the XT Play yard but was completely housebroken before he was 4 months old. I now use the XT Play Yard for our new Yorkie puppy. Perfect for her! I agree about the Pack n Play playpen. I worried a puppy could chew up the pad if left unsupervised. I would love to get a waterproof pad cover for the playpen for whenever we visit my parents. |
We brought Trixie home in March when she was 12 weeks old and have been using a North States Playyard which we purchased from walmart.com for $52.99 plus .97 shipping to our house. It has six panels and can be made smaller or larger to fit your home. Trixie has her crate, peepads and her food/water bowl in the xpen. I just purchased 2 additional panels so that I could make a peepad area for her off to the side of the pen. :animal-pa |
I brought my x-pen from k-mart for $65. It's made out of plastic, and you can shape the pen into a circle, rectangle, or anything inbetween. Theres plenty of room for me to place all of his stuff such as a crate, water dish, bed, and pee pad. |
I am considering getting the extension for the XT play yard to create TWO smaller play yards. I could use one for my yorkie and one for our pomeranian puppy. Or could use one inside for our yorkie puppy and one outside for her to run around safely off her leash. |
Can you order a cover in case the puppy jumps out? |
I am not sure if there is a cover for the XT Play Yard or not. I could make one. |
